I was at a local bar last night which I do not offten mostly shot at pool halls. I am playing this older guy and he is playing some of the best bar box pool ive seen. It took me awhile but I finally got instroke and started playing even but if I missed this guy was out from every where. He must of made not just hit but made 5 tuff kicks. I was out smoking and he came out and I said where did you learn to shot like that. He says quote I am the grandson of Willie Hoppe. This guys name is Jim Hoppe. I right away dont belive him but he tells me some stories and it sounds like some of them line up. However I am not a billiards historian. SO my question is did WIllie Hoppe have kids and where could I find more info on him. I am also interested on hearing what others may think about this.

I agree

tuff one. GOnna be hard to prove. Dude's prob got a better chance of being a boldfaced liar...but I hate to speak poorly of that about which I don't know.

Hoppe's survivors at death: "...son, William, daughter Alice, both of CA and one brother and 2 sisters".

I agree but he learned to shot somewhere would also like to find some more info on willie any good websites

Don't forget that Hoppe was a billiard player, not a pool player. By most accounts, Hoppe looked down on pool as not being as sophisticated as billiards and pool players more so. In his day: "Bums play pool, gentlemen play billiards".

yes it was entertaning to say the least. He also told me that he saw willie play fats straight pool does anyone know if that ever happened

Wille Hoppe

Diane Hoppe, billiards photographer, is suppose to be the granddaughter of Willie Hoppe. I don't know if she is an AZer, but I'm sure she's still around in the billiard/pool community and someone knows how to reach her.

Willie Hoppe or Mosconi? Fats and Hoppe didn't play 14.1 so that is very unlikely. Fats would not have played Mosconi 14.1 either if he had a choice.
