Hello im new on here so im sure this has been talked of before but im just looking for some of the more popular aiming systems that i can practice myself, dvd or book or info on the comp, any info appreciated thanks for your time!

Hi,

contact-to-contact (aming by numbers from Joe-Tuck very nice to learn *to see the aming point*)
SAM and Ghostball-- with these *combinations* you should work fine.
There are several- but imo this combination works very good with *new* players and advanced players.

But for sure there are several more :)

just use the search function on the site...........we have tons of info on many systems

to add to ratta's list you also will find:

some more ball pocketing aiming techniques.....

B.O.B. (back of ball aiming)
Parrallel line method
(I use a mix b/t SAM and my own unique B.O.B. aiming method)

Bank aiming techniques:

Spot on the wall (multi rail banking)
CTE (normal and bank shots)
Mirror Method (banks, kicks)

just remember you need to learn to be properly aligned with the shot.......if your not then stroking straight isn't going to help you.........once you attain proper alignment in your stance in relation with the cue and the shot you will AUTOMATICALLY begin to see and learn things on your own that you never thought or saw before...........reason being when your aligned right you can actually see ZERO or TRUE CENTER of the shot so more and more extra details that you missed prior you will begin to see and use in the development of your own ROTE system

Rote system is just feel based, you learn how to do things naturally and your brain uses all the info to help make the adjustments or calculations. Kind of like with multiple rail banks, you can know where to aim the ball sure but you still also have to know the feel of the strength of hit and the quantity of spin. I get some of my answers I need from systems and some of them are from my personal ROTE system.

See if you can find a book by Todd Leveck. "Aiming on the cutting edge". This book covers most all aiming systems quite well.....randyg

Here are some articles which include discussions of aiming systems, including some analysis of how accurate they are likely to be. Dr. Dave Alciatore covers a whole bunch of systems on his website, here.

Just remember that in the end, you will have to depend on your own judgment in aiming because there is no system that is good for all shots under all conditions.

Amen, Mr Jewett! I'm an avid Pro One user, but it's pretty much a center of opening system, at least to the point that I use it. If I have to cheat a pocket or shoot to a half a pocket, then I have my own little things that I do.

As to the original post. I don't think any of the generally accepted aiming methods are BAD. Some are easier to visualize than others... and what might be easy for ME to visualize may not be easy for YOU to visualize.

Most important... have fun with the game. Even though the tournament and match play can be intense, you still just have to have fun with it. Of course, if you're winning, it's a lot easier to have fun! :)

Also Amen !
For some ppl it seems to be too hard to just enjoy what they re doing. If you see some guys while shooting...........really a reason to be afraid, lol. Some ppl setting themselves under pressure- they should all remember that it is a hobby and they re doing it for fun , no matter what skill-level you have.
