i just found out my 3rd joss shaft is slightly warped. first one from ozone billiards second from cheapcues.com 3rd from dan and stephen janes over at joss cues ltd. I baby my cues, never leave the in extreme temps. have a sterling case and all that. Whats wrong? i am now forced to go back to my OB - 1. i am thinking maybe haveing a cuemaker make me a shaft so i know its made 1 at a time with actual attention to quality. I gotta say a joss cue with a straight joss shaft is the nutz but yeah I'm fed up.

I know you said you keep them in a case. Where? I have mine in cases in my basement (dry) and the temp. is between 67 to 69 year round...I've never had any issues. I'm in Pa. I know others have had the same problem, just curious where they're stored.

same thing kept in my living room i'm in mass

Does the tip stay on the table when it's rolled? or does it lift and wobble?

Just curious because different people have different tolerances for warped.

yes it does. its mostly the taper goes flat on the table the off when rolled

I have a Lucasi that the shaft is dead straight. I also have a Pechauer and the shaft lifts a little. Go figure.

the warp is not severe by any means but where as pool is as mental as it is i shot lights out yesterday and once i saw the warp i couldnt make a straight in ball in hand

My playing cue has shafts that have a very slight wobble to them.

Makes no differnce to me, I can't run out anyways!!!!

:)

Now to be serious. I understand the mental game. If I have a slight bad spot in the shaft and I can feel it that bothers me. If the fuelle is dirty again it bothers me. I'll bet if you checked other peoples shafts you would be suprised at how many are not perfectly straight. Just read the cues in the for sale section here and see how many have "taper roll" and most are from big time makers.

This is completely fixable. Just put a dot on the left warp, and two dots on the right warp.

If you need right english, put two dots at 3 o'clock. Left english, one dot at 9 o'clock. For draw, put one dot at 6 o'clock, for follow, put two dots at 12 o'clock.

For center ball - what you do is...uh..umm ... well who uses center ball anyway?

Chris

Ps. sorry about your shafts - that really does suck.

Have you sent an E-mail to Joss and asked why your shafts are doing this.
You probably will get a reply saying they have no control over how you do or do not take care of them but its worth a shot.
Maybe they had a load of bad blanks and are aware of some problems. Kind of like the secret warranties auto makers have. They keep defects( they dont have to fix defects unless they are safety related) a secret until somebody complains loud enough then they fix it for free sometimes.

The 3rd shaft came from joss directly, he took $100 off the price and said do him a favor take care of that shaft

So yeah

If the warpage is so slight that you know it really should have no effect on the shaft's playability...

But for some mental reason you are sharking yourself because of it ...

Then I'd suggest you keep the shaft and play a lot with it (though maybe not in competition) until you get to the point that you have overcome the mental problem.

That should leave you stronger mentally regarding all sorts of similar future issues. (But, of course, you'll still want straight shafts when you buy new ones.:))
