I have a carmeli with 2 of jim pierce shafts the ferrules are full 1 inche the shafts have alot of growth ring the shafts look like they should hit a ton they have emerald tips just do not have the nice tone like my jerry r cue does any body have a idea of how i should get a stiffer hit out of it? or should i just have a shaft made for it? and who makes the stiffest hitting shaft that could be made for the cue? the factory shafts where only 12mm so there was no point of getting them.

please help
thanks,

If the cue lacks tone try tightening up the weight bolt, make it as tight as you can and try it again.

thanks i will try that to night i like the cue alot just sounds dead i might try a madman tip on it i like a medium hard crisp hit and thase emerald tips just are not doing the trick was using moori tip but just seem to miss cue to much if you dont rough them up every now and then.

wieght bolt

just went to try to tighten the weight bolt the cue does not have a weight bolt damnn that would have been a good quick fix.

some shafts just hit badly...I have learned this the hard way - its got nothing to do with growth rings etc... its wood and wood is wood

Try changing the tips first.

A bad tip can make a good cue play like crap.

I had a Tiger Emerald on my cue and it was crud, hard, no feel, clunky sound. Try a better tip first.

Put, an Aluminum weight bolt in the cue and tighten it down, it won't change the weight enough to notice and it won't effect the balance point, but it will change the sound and feel of the hit.

It won't change the woods in that butt however.
Joey~Thinks it's the handle ~

It may be the handle, but by adding or tightening up aa existing weight bolt you will change the vibration transmitted throughout the cue when the Cue Ball is struck, along with the sound made upon contact.

It may help it may not but, it certainly will not hurt anything and it doesn't cost much to try.

I read your post to be "How do I get a stiffer hit?". I thought the ref to
tone was more of a side issue.

So, are you looking to stiffen the hit - or 'improve' the tone?

If it is a stiffer hit, the prospects are not good. Sorta zero - IMHO.

First, find out what ferrule and tip you have on your Jerry R. cue. Then have someone put that same exact combo on just one of the Carmeli shafts. Also important is the weight, get the Carmeli as close in weight to your Jerry as possible. After these 3 things, the sound and hit should be very similar.
This will get you as close to The Jerry cue as possible( w/o major $$$ spent). If the subtle differences still bother you and can't live with it after a tip/ferrule/weight change then sell the cue. It will cost way too much to replace wood and shafts in the cue.

tip

the jerry r has true ivory ferrul and do not know what kind of ferrule is on the carmeli but i do know that the tips are so bad that i can not varnish the sides out on them. i think they where junk when placed on the cue they through english well but seem to be spungey so i will change tips first cheap easy fix then will consider other options. thanks everyone for the info and ideas i realy apperciate your help.

thanks,
