my littlest turns three this week and he loves to get up on a milkcrate and hit some balls. sometimes he uses a 4" cue i have which is too heavy and sometimes he asks me to take apart a 58" cue and uses just the shaft (too light). what is the best way to let a little one get started?!?

thanks,
justaguy

My first thought would be a jump cue. Not sure how long they measure out to be but it would add some weight to the end of the shaft.

I was thinking the same thing get a J&J jump cue for under $40 and put a leather tip on it

Awww, babies first cue. Cool.

These are the ones that a supply store in my city carries.
They are made very well. A little more expensive in Canada but at that advertised price, I'd say worth it.
If you look at the description, it has the cue matched to the height of your child.

If not, Google short pool cues. Lots of em out there.

How old is the little guy? If he wants to bang balls around, encourage him.

Definitely a jump cue. Refer to this link for vids of my three year old. He was two when I took these:

He is actually getting away from the jump cue now for some reason(his decision) but his shot making ability has improved playing with a longer cue. I literally spend all my free time on the table with him and it's amazing how small children pick up on things so fast. You can see a difference day to day if you have the patience.

Let him just try to shoot balls straight in the hole at first, no cue ball needed. Once he gets the hang of that, bring in the cue ball.

those were some of the ones i looked at, but the lightest one there is 15 oz, probably too much for a 3 yr old...

thanks for the thought though,
