Earl/Shane Scoreboard

relax already.....how is this related to svb,,, gotta find something to pick on. He is tuning out the crowd who has heckled him yesterday. Is that OK,?? Freaking PC world we live in is ridiculous. Oh, your deaf, I'm sorry, I better never wear protective head gear to dampen sounds....wtf

Musicians wear them all the time, but you don't see them. Wearing oversized obvious earmuffs is obnoxious, which to me is a move, and tacky.

I'm not PC, just saying that it's an obvious and tasteless unnecessary symbolic gesture. And has he worn them before, since he finds them necessary?

Earl is one of the games greatest players, he should act like it.

yeah, he kinda looks like shane earlier...shanes body language was bad, hanging his head, giving up, taking crazy shots.....

maybe he finally figured out that he can't shoot his way out of jams anymore...

should be a nail biter though.

You can feel the momentum in here switching to Shane for about the last hour or so. He is looking more like himself with each rack. This is the first time he's smiled since the beginning of yesterday. I hope he continues to rally. I want to see it get close and go back and forth a little.

dued, they are not ear muffs......they are ear protective devices that you would wear at a shooting range. It keeps sound out. Notice how calm he has been tonight without hearing the voices......

Only thing tastless is you trying to make something out of nothing.....go away...folks wanna hear about the game....oooops, I said "hear" but i mean no offense,,,,,oh please dont telll svb on me....

Big Tables

The conversion over to 9' tables really began in the 40's. Mosconi was a big proponent of the smaller table, easier for him to run balls. He won most of his titles on the nine footers. So they've been around and in popular use for over sixty years. Yes, they played 9-Ball on the ten footers back in the day. One Pocket was kind of a new game in the 40's. You continued to see ten foot tables in many poolrooms (at least a couple) until the 60's. After that they became more and more scarce.

The last year the big tables were used for tournament play (Straight Pool Championship) was 1949. The tournament was won by Caras and Jimmy will always be remembered as the last champion on the 5 x 10.

Correct me if I'm wrong Jay, but 5 x 10's weren't popular in the south. And once the tournaments went the way of the 4.5 x 9's it opened THE championship up to more southern shooters - enter Wimpy Lassiter.

Shane was faced with the most difficult shot on the table. Cue ball in one pocket. 1 ball 7 feet away straight in. He jacked up and tried to spear it in. The table spit it out and laughed at him. Earl made him shoot again. Shane missed a kick on the 1 ball. Earl gets BIH and runs out.

61-50

Earls patterns are better than Shane's.

Would you rather see a repeat of last night? Earl has shown he gets into problems with spectators for minor sounds and actions. Things go better for him with the ear muffs. It doesn't matter what he does, someone thinks it's a move, and complains.

At various points in history in championship play, ivory balls went away, 2 5/16" balls went away, 4.5" corner pockets went away, and I believe it was 1949 that the ten footer went away as the championship table. Charlie Ursitti told me today and I believe he said 1949. Nine ball, although played from some unknown beginning before the 1920s, wasn't even in the rule books until the lifetimes of many on this forum. Eddie Taylor told me in Tulsa at the Billiard Palace that his father played 9 ball in the 1920s and that he believes it had been played for a while before that. But it was a gambling game and, like one pocket, was beaten down for this reason until Fats' publishing of his yellow book forced the BCA and others to recognize it. So no, championships were not held for 9 ball, and ten footers were actually not all that common in their time unless you were in a bigger city. Even the great Kling & Allen had only two 5x10 pool tables in the beginning- I read the contract myself. At any rate, CHAMPIONSHIP pool WAS decided on 5 x 10 tables from early on, believe that.

I have always believed that. I just KNOW that there is a world of difference between playing straight pool on a 10 footer and playing any rotational game.

I was hoping he would wear ear plugs the other day to help take the knockers in the stands out of the game. Way to go Earl.
It doesn't have to be anything to do with Shane and his hearing , the jerkwads in the stands always have something to say .
They have no importance in the real world , so when they get an opportunity to squawk they can't help themselves.

After calling shane a cheater with the rack, you root for him lol.

Anyhow, earl runs out.

Wow, didn't take you long to try and start something... why do you give a flying F*ck who roots for who...... free country. fine pool being played....leave your earl bashing for another day. This is the scoreboard, not the earl bashing thread. frkn troll..

earls career is walking out the door(has been for a while) he knows this and this is his last stint to make sure people dont forget about him.

there is no way you would be acting crazier then you ever have before unless you were after something.

plain and simple.
