Earl/Shane Scoreboard

The conversion over to 9' tables really began in the 40's. Mosconi was a big proponent of the smaller table, easier for him to run balls. He won most of his titles on the nine footers. So they've been around and in popular use for over sixty years. Yes, they played 9-Ball on the ten footers back in the day. One Pocket was kind of a new game in the 40's. You continued to see ten foot tables in many poolrooms (at least a couple) until the 60's. After that they became more and more scarce.

Was Earl really wearing shooting range type "earmuffs"? I don't have the stream, so I'm only going by what I read here, which may be half in jest.

If he is, or was, am I the only person that finds this highly unnecessary and offensive to Shane? Seems like a major intentional and tasteless sharking move.

If I were Shane, and had to watch this, I would only be thinking about how much of an a-hole this guy is.

I really hope Earl didn't do that. It's beyond tasteless.

Nah, shane is just smirking at everything earl is doing now. He's adapting...

There ya have it.... Nuff said

Yes, Earl was sporting earmuffs for many racks and shooting well. Now he's slowly giving up (in my mind). He better put the earmuffs back on and focus if he wants to stop Shane from encroaching on his 11 game lead (60-49 right now).

I think Earl is starting to lose it. He has mailed in his last two shots. Now he is sitting in his chair saying, "I'm a piece of shit, everyone here is an asshole."

He is starting to lament himself and the situation. Looks like he is turning Shane into a monster.

relax already.....how is this related to svb,,, gotta find something to pick on. He is tuning out the crowd who has heckled him yesterday. Is that OK,?? Freaking PC world we live in is ridiculous. Oh, your deaf, I'm sorry, I better never wear protective head gear to dampen sounds....wtf

yes, the only person in 6 hours to even mention it is related to svb's deafness......

Shane breaks dry. They exchange a couple of safeties. Shane is faced with another long shot on the 1. Does he shoot it or play safe??? GOOD GRIEF - HE FIRED IT IN! Has to get from the 5 to the 6 to get out. He figured that out and he sure is shooting straight all of a sudden. That was a tough out!

60-50

He is wearing ear plugs and head set part of the time..
I think the outside voices confuse the voices in his head and he gets pissed..
I really thing the noise gets to him.

earl is now cursing shane, think he just dropped the f bomb on him like 3 times....

hard to tell what was exactly said.

shane within 10 games, for the first time in a million years. 60-50. Earl's currently yelling at shane and saying he's cheating on the rack, shane insists on adjusting earl's rack most of the time.

unknown progression

I"m not sure about 9ball,, but the greats of the 50's did with staight pool.... but 10 ball on a10 footers.,may the best sharp shooter win.

At various points in history in championship play, ivory balls went away, 2 5/16" balls went away, 4.5" corner pockets went away, and I believe it was 1949 that the ten footer went away as the championship table. Charlie Ursitti told me today and I believe he said 1949. Nine ball, although played from some unknown beginning before the 1920s, wasn't even in the rule books until the lifetimes of many on this forum. Eddie Taylor told me in Tulsa at the Billiard Palace that his father played 9 ball in the 1920s and that he believes it had been played for a while before that. But it was a gambling game and, like one pocket, was beaten down for this reason until Fats' publishing of his yellow book forced the BCA and others to recognize it. So no, championships were not held for 9 ball, and ten footers were actually not all that common in their time unless you were in a bigger city. Even the great Kling & Allen had only two 5x10 pool tables in the beginning- I read the contract myself. At any rate, CHAMPIONSHIP pool WAS decided on 5 x 10 tables from early on, believe that.

Oh please..... How is wearing earmuffs insulting to Shane?

yeah, he kinda looks like shane earlier...shanes body language was bad, hanging his head, giving up, taking crazy shots.....

maybe he finally figured out that he can't shoot his way out of jams anymore...

should be a nail biter though.

It wasn't tasteless at all. Earl was wearing them to try and stay focused on the match. Wearing those was the best thing he's done for Shane in two days.

"Come back Shane, come back!" Taken directly from the movie of the same name.

Though that Shane who was played by Alan Ladd, and who was a retired "gunfighter" that had to come out of retirement...hmmmm.....great movie !!!!!!
