Disgusted

I'm getting so fed up with luck or roles coming into play within the course of a match.
Played this Guy yesterday a race to 9. In that race he snapped 2 nine balls, had 3 nine ball combinations, shit 2 balls in non intended pockets and got out. That's 7 unanswered games. What snapped me was his comment " I'd rather be lucky than good ". My response was " I'd rather have someone respect my game " in which he took offence to.
So I lose 9-7.
Now he's all happy cause he beat me and wants to play again. I said fine but we modify the game and see if you can win without luck.
Play call shot of your next ball in rotation, meaning always calling 1 ahead of what your shooting whether its calling the pocket or playing safe and see how good you are without luck. If you don't accomplish what u called its ball in hand.
Needless to say he left.
I'm sure others are as fed up as me.

I think you have a valid point, but I do not think 9 or 10 Ball will become "call shot games", honestly the only way to change thing is to get a major rules change.

I have been at tournaments were you have some very under skilled "C" player, who is able to hit their object ball with great force sending the Cue Ball round the table like a Bullet Ricocheting off a Steel plate, hitting the "9" Ball, and sinking the "9" Ball in a pocket, and wining a game or match with pure luck.

Play him 9 doesn't count on the break. All the other stuff should even out if you play long enough. If you keep playing the better player will win in the long run. If not, you might not have been the better player (in general, not you specifically).

Weird... That has never happened to me!!!

Call your next shot, is a great way to shut down all luck. Even if they over roll their shots they have to play them in the hole they called...Most A players can't run a rack like this. Hell most pro's nowadays can't run out like this...

It is the only way to play real pool! Every game is better...Plus it is easy to understand..."This shot I will be playing the 4 in the side pocket for my next shot I will be playing a 5 ball in that corner making sure to point at the intended corner...then you might say "5 in the corner 6 ball cross side."

I'll bet no lucky player ever win's another tourney...Plus no ducking out every time you suck....You must call safe before you get in trouble...lol

This part would ruin like 98% of people. No safety unless you knew you were going to play it...Call it the shot before you shoot..

I have been playing all games like this since I was 8-9 years old...It is the best game around. This rule can be used in every single game there is to make it more professional.

Call the Waaahmbulance, you're coming off like a sore loser. 9 ball has a lot of luck in it and anyone that's played more than 3 racks of it should have already come to that conclusion. Deal with it like a mature, informed adult or change the game you play. You're not going to get too many symapthetic responses to this type of OP.

Sorry to be so cold, just sayin' - It's freaking 9 ball!

Matt <-- not a fan of the bad roll whiners, looking for earmuffs

You lost playing a luck game (9-ball) and now complaining about it. If you're going to rematch, consider matching up where your skills would play a greater part in deciding the outcome than luck.

i.e longer race of 9-ball, and play safety if you can't run out.
10-ball
14.1
8-ball

Hey there are different games, some have luck others are more skill. Like when I play 8 ball it is always call the shot/pocket, no ball in hand. For 9 ball luck has a lot to do with it, but it is a fast paced game. Everyone gets lucky once in awhile.

I prefer to have a little luck associated with the game. After all, luck ultimately equals out and better players, in longer runs, ultimately win.

I wonder what would have happened if OP had been the one with the 2 9 ball breaks and 3 9b combos?

OP - Frankly, im not a fan of the way you handled it. If you thought you were the better player, the only think you should have said after the match was "Again?". If you really had an edge on the player, then it is simply a question of sample size bearing out that edge. Getting all pissy and trying to invent a new game is certainly not going to be a +ev situation.

Go play a couple hundred thousand hands on pokerstars and come back and whine about someone winning a race to 9. lol.

At what are you disgusted? The game? But that's the game. Your opponent?
Your the one that said it was all luck and that he was not responsible for those lucky shots. Fate? There is nothing there that disgust will change. Fate is fate.

I take it you have been playing awhile. You can't tell me that you have never had similar runs of luck in your pool playing experience.

Now if you shot badly, that's a reason to be disgusted. And the only thing that you have any control over.

But if you were shooting well and he won the set strictly because of an unusual lucky streak I think you made a mistake by running him of with a bad attitude. Once he thought he could beat you and didn't see that he was just lucky and that you have superior skills he was money in the bank.

It seems to me your ego got in the way of common sense. But, that is just my humble opinion.

Play him again at the same game. Over the long run, the luck has less influence.

If you can't raise your game to beat that then you won't get better...and it will be true that lucky is better than you.

Were you all playing even?

Tell me how you all were matching up? Look like he got all of the breaks! I guess because he was winning!

What if it had been the other way around? You did what he did to you, to him!
That has happened to me, but I still play 9 ball often! And I like it. I knew the rules when I started to play!
Regards,
Lock N Load.
