purple heart coring dowels

who sells 30inch purple heart coring dowels at a good price

The cheapest is to buy a 5/4 board and cut your own. The draw back is it takes awhile to season them. Bell has them and maybe the best bet if you need some quickly.

Purpleheart

I have very seasoned purpleheart I can cut to squares. Mostly 18'', some 30" All of it is over 2 inches thick and tight straight grain. Have been meaning to cut it up and sell it and have a couple people waiting. Not sure yet of pricing, but will be fair. I doubt you will find older stock this thick.

Will be selling very very old Andamin Padauk, also 2 inch thick soon.

I bought some from Cue Components a few weeks ago and they where all junk.
I used them for tomato plant stakes.

I have gotten nice ones from Schmelke in the past. I might try Bell Forest or
go back to cutting my own from planks.

I bought planks from Bell Forrest, cut them, and turned them round. It was a fair amount of work without a dowel machine...

That sounds like the same quality I got when I ordered some cocobolo squares from them. Not even close to the pictures of the wood they show on the web site.

Hi,

I have a doweling machine and have made PH dowels. If you want 3/4", you got to do 7/8" then turn them down on the lathe between centers for cue making as the dowels needs to spot on.

On the larger stock ie. 1.5", the dowel comes out pretty straight. On the smaller sizes they can be a little off. Don't blame the supplier as this is the facts of life. At least in my experience with doweling smaller dia.

Good Luck,

Rick

dowelsondemand.com, I get my dowels (purpleheart) from him and they are always top notch. His prices are pretty reasonable too.
