New break cue?

I am in the market for a new break or break/jump cue. I have researched on here and google and am still at a loss. I have kind of narrowed it down to the Fury JB, Poison VXJB, and the Tiger Icebreaker 2 JB. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I had also considered the Pechauer Break, OB Break, and the Predator BK2..
Was also going to get it with a samsara tip as I play mostly BCA and need it to be legal. Or is there a better/different tip I should get?

Thanks for all the info. If anyone is selling a fine break or break/jump cue please let me know..

Some to consider...

Mjonesmb1,

I'm also in the market for a break/jump combo cue. I've been researching this forum and have come up with the following suggestions but not in this particular order.

Mid - High Price 1.) Andy Gilbert 2.) Steve Lomax 3.) Kevin Varney

Low Price 1.) J & J 2.) Players 3.) Poison 4.) Fury

Based on the posts with these suggestions I think it's up to you first decide your price range and then choose accordingly. I've personally not tried any of these cues but they each seem to be liked by those that have them.

I think I'm going to choose the J & J because I don't have the money in my budget at this time to get a Gilbert, Lomax or Varney.

I read a post by Kevin Varney in another similar thread where he highly endorsed the Andy Gilbert Jump/Break. Another cue maker also endorsed Gilbert's cue for a lady that uses his cue for playing. She wanted him to build her a jump/break and he referred her to Andy Gilbert and she was very pleased. I think he said he contacted Gilbert on her behalf). That speaks highly in my opinion.

If you decide to pursue a Varney cue, be mindful he's currently recovering from some health challenges (don't know the details but you can search this forum) and it may be a while before you're able to get a cue from him.

As far as break/jump tips go, I'm definitely going to choose between the Samsara and the Tiger Icebreaker.

Lastly, since you mentioned being in BCA league and wanting your chosen break/jump cue to be legal, you may want to consider the below cue because it's listed as being legal in all competition. It's a combo break/jump that comes with two shafts (one for breaking and the other for jumping). I've not tried it and don't know anyone who has. I liked the being competition legal part along with the two shafts idea.

I hope this helps and let us know what you decide.

Thanks so much for the info. I have looked at the J&J but I cannot find it anywhere with the option for the tip, other than phenolic.
Does anyone have an idea on where I can get one with a different tip?

I have been looking at the J&J myself and it seems that that is the only way it comes. A couple of the guys around Denver have had a new ferrule and leather break tip put on for like $40. We are lucky here to have a few cue builders in town to do the work locally.

I would have to travel to LA to get that done and I am not up to all that traffic. There is no one locally that I know of that can do that work for me.

Mjonesmb1,

If you're purchasing your J & J from a company like Billiard Warehouse, you can ask them if they do ferrule and tip replacements. If so, you can order the desired ferrule and tip from them and have them do the work prior to shipping you your cue. Otherwise, you'll have to purchase it as is and then mail the cue to a cue maker of your choice to do the ferrule/tip work you want so you're legal for competition.

I recently purchased an Orange Crusher from Baby's Pro Shop. I love it! It has a Samsara tip on it. I think its a ton of cue for the money. Its is a break only cue not a jump break. Check it out.

So many break jump cue out there is som hard to pick one . But keep in mind your going to break balls so way put a ton of money in one .. fury makes a great one for under 200 . poison in the same market. On the low end side J&j make a great low price Break jump you can make it better . find a local cue man turn the shaft to a shooting tapper and add joint collers and there you have it my 2 cents on how to make a low end break jump .into a Killer cue

cue $80
joint $30
tapper$ 30
140 ... Hmmmm under 200
Good luck

I've had all the breakers at one time or another and the best one to me by far..........

It's the Pechauer break cue.

Hands down the best one i've used.

I have a poison jump break with a samsara tip on it and it jumps and breaks really good! For 200 dollars for a good jump and break stick i would defiantly get the poison!
