twisting.....

so i continually try to figure out how to get my form right, its normally pretty random...i mean im good without a good stroke, but i find myself missing long shots because of unwanted spin on the cueball,.....so i tried moving my arm to where it was slightly uncomfortable, then i tried moving my head over the cue better, i thought it was a visual thing, both ways i would strike the cue crisp, and u could tell it was a good stroke....

then this old timer came up to me and told me something about the way i stand, he said that i should TWIST down into my stance, like my feet should be like 90 to my cue, and when i bend down , i should twist towards the shot....

so i tried it, and i hit the ball crisply and had a good stroke, ive done it multiple times and it seemed to work every time...

it feels really weird, but i make balls, and my stroke is straight....

what do u guys think about this...

ps...the dude claimed to have excellent form for basketball as well, and said he made 100 out of 120 three pointers when he was younger....and he could go down to the community center today , and drain 12 in a row....

How you get into shooting position is not anywhere near as important as what you do after you are there. Your stroke comes from what you do with your stroke arm and hand. You can twist, drop, stoop, bend, or kneel to get into position, as long as you get there. You need to get your head to a point where you can acccurately see where your cue is pointing, and your upper body in position to move the cue straight forward.

Darn, you haven't even got post#17 ! Really if you are happy with the results, and it is repeatable, thats good!

There's no twisting in pool.

All kidding aside, it sounds like he's trying to show you some (twisted) version of a snooker stance. I think a snooker stance is a great stance. Maybe you should consider buying a book on snooker fundamentals.

Fran. Would that be the Chubby Checker stance?
Snooker fundamentals are good.

I don't think the twisting is necessary, but it may have either put your body/feet in a better position that allowed you to align your upper body and arm better (or just differently) to the shot, and/or it may have made you felt more rooted to the ground or helped you stay down and therefore more confident or committed to the shot.
