Looking to move from a town that does not offer much for a pool family

Currently we live in a town with:

1 travel league that travels between the same 5 bars

1 in house league that just ignores defense so everyone is dramatically under handicapped

(please do not replay if your city has more then 1 foot of snow a year thats the other reason we want to leave)

Florida and Texas are good States for pool. California is starting to becoming a happening kind of place.

As far as cities, well, there's a lot of variables, I think, when looking for a place to live, but Florida seems like they have a lot going on in recent times. :)

ohio has scene .... cbus and cincy r 1 30 hours away.... cbus has tones o3 great pool rooms tourneys every night in house leagues......... 2 bca tourneys a year........
cincy has michaels billiards ... and kickshots ( florence ky ) but its like 2.5 secounds out side of the city .... and loads of action i go there to watch all the time........

Spring Hill, Palm Harbor, Largo, or New Port Richey, Florida. You have pros Tony Crosby, Mike Davis, Donnie Mills, Corey Deuel, Rodney Morris, and the legendary Ray Martin all within a 25 mile radius and no snow.

I thought I heard Houston has more poolrooms than any other city? Also those places blackjack listed in Florida would be great as well.

the metro atlanta area is not a bad place. i've been here for four years and i like it. the cost of living isn't too bad. the weather is not as bad as florida was in the summer and not as bad as the notheast was in the winters. and the pool seen is pretty good. bunch of pros live in the area and in a few mile radius you have more than a few really good rooms. not to mention if you have a home table mark gregory is one of the best table mechanichs in the country and this is his home turf. steve lomax and a few other very good cue makers are in this area as well. we get plenty of local, regional amateur, and pro tournaments that are here. and if you like action there are more than a couple of people and places where you can get a game.

I'll second the Atlanta area. Plus, two well run amature tours make several stops in and around Atlanta.

H Town

Houston has to be at the top of the list.

1. Better than average economy than most places right now with the major oil companies there.

2. Lots of pool!!

Open Tournaments
Amateur Tournament
Independent Events
League play is robust
Action on many levels

They all have their share of nits. :)

Good luck with it!

Good advice here. We moved to central Florida and loving it. Lots of pool and lots of places.

I would have to say Texas as well. I'm from MD and played in VA, VA is nice also. I live in SC now and its horrible for pool. I go to Corpus Christi, San Antonio and mainly Austin and there is a major poolhall in each direction with serious players.

Give me a shout when you come back to Corpus if you want to hit some balls.

Texas has a nice women's pool tour going on there if I am not mistaken.

I know that I brag on phoenix all the time and it must get old but since
this be your first thread you gotta be told that this town is SICK. Spend some time out here. Google AZ Pool scene When you get here PM me. I don't know much but I can give you names of people who do.

Let me copy a post of mine from a couple of months ago.

Arizona, Phoenix in particular has to be right up there. This does not even include the monthly tourneys, The Desert Classic Tour, or league play. Notice all the open tourneys. Just about all the tourneys have side pots so entry fees are kept reasonable.

Most of you are tired of seeing this but a nu-B gotta know.

NYC for sure is good, but i cant play 14.1 and snow sucks, so its off my list.

Vegas sucks.

It ws great there in the earily 90's, I'd drive down every 6-8 weeks and stay for a week or 2 at a friends house. I could get soft action. I was broke and a lock artist(I had no other choice) and I never had a day I couldnt find $20-$100 action where I was the favorite. I did get beat a few times, I took on a few tough games, I wanted to get better and invested in my game by playing better players, sometimes I'd win. I never went back to Vegas a loser one time. Time at the rooms was cheap, action was easy to find, guys had gamble(they would play you even if they didnt know you)-I had a lot of respect for PHX back then as a pool town, i dont know whats going on there now.

I dont know anything about leagues or tournaments other than I avoid both. I am only interested in action.

During my travels Phoenix was it................

I can't believe no one has mentioned Phoenix, AZ.

JoeyA

Your right Joey. When I was on the road giving lessons I thought Phoenix had alot to offer pool players other than the scorching heat in the summer.

There is handicap tournys pretty much every night of the week and I even found a tourny that I could play in almost every night of the week.

It's also easy to find your way around.

Plus what a great bunch of pool players. I made some friends there that I will keep for life and never forget.

I'm a little partial to Phoenix. When I first started my Perfect Aim teachings I went to Vegas to play in some tournys. i had been out of pool for about 8 years.

I then traveled to Phoenix to visit my friends Harry and Tom.

At first I was just trying to give some lessons and survive. Soon I had given around 100 lessons and counting. Word of mouth travaled very fast and the lessons just kept coming. when I left I had about 8 or 9 I didn't do.

It was a total accident that Phoenix had the greatest Pool site in the world.

AZ billiards. I don't think the word of Perfect Aim could have spread as fast any other way than it has with AZ.

AZ reaches every corner of the world...........

I was invited into players homes and met their families. They made me feel like I was right at home. I'll never forget that.

Phoenix soon became my favorite place in my whole life travels for pool and just real nice people.

If you love pool and want to play every night of the week this is the place to go.

When I go back and I will, I know a week long trip could very well turn into 2 or three months again.

What fun........Pool POOL and MORE POOL>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
