New case against smoking

Hmmm

The VW Beetle hasn't been made since 2003. Mussolini was another rabid non-smoker, and pushed anti-smoking laws in Italy after his buddy Hitler started doing it in Germany.

Classic.

Edit:

Just as most people who advocate fascist policies and disgusting attacks on the constitution are quick to get indignant when called out on it.

Um, they still make the VW Beetle my friend. Just because the old polluting model built in Mexico was discontinued has no bearing on the VW Beetle built today by VW. Most cars get revamped through their life span...

Yeah, fascists policies ! I didn't advocate any smoke free laws and/or regulations dude in my state...so I don't really think I can be "indignant" when called out... I'll tell you what, please start a petition, lobby your current state legislator and get a new bill passed that will not offend you. But in the mean time I'm gonna go get me some fascist smoke free air at my local pool hall !! Ahhhh,,, sweet.. I didn't lift a finger for this state law, but man, I"m enjoying the benefits, that's for sure...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Beetle#Worldwide_end_of_production
As of 2002 over 21 million Type 1s had been produced, but by 2003, annual production had fallen to 30,000 from a peak of 1.3 million in 1971. VW announced the end of production in June 2003, citing decreasing demand, and the final original Type 1 VW Beetle (No. 21,529,464) rolled off the production line at Puebla, Mexico, on 30 July 2003[36] — 65 years after its original launch and unprecedented 58-year production run (counting from 1945, the year VW recognizes as the first year of non-Nazi funded production). This last Beetle, nicknamed El Rey (Spanish for "The King" after a legendary Mexican song by José Alfredo Jiménez). was delivered to the company's museum in Wolfsburg, Germany.

If you are referring to the VW New Beetle introduced in the late 90's...uh...Hitler didn't have anything to do with its design as you claimed, since he was dead 50 years previous.

Panem et circenses. Still works today. :)

I have no data to support this, but I would imagine that cities which have strip clubs in them have more crime than those that don't. If this is true, all strip clubs should be banned for the public good.

I will tell you what

a friend and room owner did. He had fixed up a nice patio area in front of his place (Stix billiards) for smoking, and you could take a drink out there too if you were 21, of course. He has a pretty good sized place with a main big room up front, and another room in the back. He got the back room, which has about 10 bar tables declared a cigar bar, in which you can smoke.

So now, the smokers can play in the back room and smoke, and the front big room is smoke free. And yes, there is a cigar bar setup and they sell cigars in the back room. There is also a liquer bar up front and one in the back room.

I can't believe this is still going!! There is a thread about this on every forum,,,,,,,,,,,,,, all it takes is some dipshit to find a way to bring it up,,,to make himself feel superior.

And this was a weak way to do it! "My case is stained!!!!"(I'm Mad and its personel!) LMAO

I already said what I would like to do with that case,,and its not a" new case against smoking",,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Its a very old case!!!!!!!!!!

I don't smoke and don't mind if you do. I have smoked in the past but not in nearly 20 years and I can not smell smoke on a person like people talk about.

I think if there if there are enough non smokers out there to support a poolroom someone should open a room for them. At the same time I think the owner of the business should have the decision left to him.

I also believe if I drive my car off a cliff while my wife is smoking that my death will be deemed a smoking related death.

The money that comes in from tobacco Tax is huge both state and federal. Other taxes would have to be passed on to everyone if they banned smoking completely.

The Tax on tobacco is robbery but the addict will pay and they know it.

Everyone now has an excuse to buy new cues and cases. "But Honey I had to buy new ones the old ones smelled like smoke"

Why mix apples and oranges. This type of comparisons makes little to no sense in what the issue really is. I wanted to share the affects of what the nicotine or whatever chemical came from the cigarette smoke. It reeked of the smell to boot. If anyone tries debating the pros and cons of good vs. the evils of smoking by comparing with other vices . And that's what it is ..a vice. An addictive habit. It leads the rest to believe that there is a lot of self denial or ignorance.

Hitler fallacies are apparently a valid argument where you come from. Among normal people, they just tend to make you look like you are grasping for straws.

Yeah, straws.

I just posted a bit of trivia that has a direct link to what this thread is about, and what some of these posters are advocating...and had it 'refuted' with completely wrong nonsense...silly me.

A pool room in Alabama, Poppa G's, recently changed their smoking policy to no smoking when they had to make the move to another location.

The owner, Frank Gattina , said he knew he was taking a chance, but he decided he wanted to create a clean environment for his new pool room. Frank recenlty had a heart attack, which was one reason for the change.

One patron says, "I've frequented pubs, bars and pool halls in more progressive cities, most recently Chicago. Coming back here, it's such a drag (no pun intended) to find most of Birmingham's nightspots smell like the inside of Sloss Furnaces during its heyday."

"When you left (the old place) you actually smelled of cigarette smoke. You just stunk," he said. "I don't want to be in that kind of environment. I want it to be clean."

Attitudes about smoking are changing, he said, and people are getting used to stepping outside to light one up. So he thinks many of his regulars who smoke will adjust. But he knows that when he opens the new place to league play next week, not everybody will make the move with him, and he's accepted that.

"I'm going to lose a lot of people, I know," he said. "But it's just a chance I've got to take."

It's hard to believe that Alabama does not at this time have a statewide ban on smoking. Now that I'm 3-plus years a non-smoker, I do not like the smell of smoke, and it will enter into my decision-making process whether I go to a place that has smoking or does not have smoking allowed.

Source: No Smoking in Pool Hall [retrieved 8 May 2011]

Diane Lane prepares to break during a game of eight ball during league play at Poppa G's Billiards in Pelham on Tuesday. Lane said she's been playing pool at Poppa G's since at least 1991. The pool hall is moving to a new location and owner Frank Gattina has decided to make the new location smoke-free.

Really? bad laws? Yes, I know you prefer to live in a country with no laws, (snip)??

Of course, I said the exactd opposite in my post you quoted.

Now what?

Jeff L:ivingston

My post that ChicagoRJ responded to:

The "rules" you cite are what is known as positive law. It's bad law with bad consequences. Pointing out its existence in no way supports the validty of it. The only point you've made is that Persons tend to obey those who point guns at them. der

A Person is free until another takes away his freedom. That's the naturalness of negative law, the only real law.

Now, back to the arugments....Sev, how about some popcorn?

You know they could have just passed a sign ordinance that said a public place of business had to put up a sign.smoking allowed or not allowed.this way the patron and the proprietor keep their power of choice.plus the ordinance would say you had to buy the signs from the county.
but to pick a single cancer causing agent and exclude all the others in the name of health is a crock.they did it that way to set a precedence for the future.now they have a path to target any thing they want to.

Well , I guess your back too.. every time you respond YOU keep this going. I will bet dimes to donuts your back now..aren't you.
Do you feel inferior ? By thinking somehow I think I'm superior . Since I know you ARE weak that you are back and reading this now. Tell me again what you would never have the sand or heart to do to my face? Or are you going to keep silent to prove me wrong...?

Dude, seriously ??? Yeah, I somehow forgot Hitler died in 1945?? You brought the car up, and the same company still makes a bettle, yes it was redesigned and upgraded with pollution stuff, and is a retro design, but it is still a VW beetle ain't it. And it still going strong. Who ever invented the Corolla still gets the credit no matter how many changes were made in during the last 40 years of its creation. Not sure why that is so confusing....

Great, now you must use Latin to make a point... bravo !! BUt unfortunately I don't see it as bad policy and it was never passed to "appease" anyone, just good common sense that most politicians don't have...... and thus why it took so freaking long.

Hmmm

OK, I"m done. You guys can have the last word. It ain't gonna make any difference. The law in IL and many other states is not gonna change anytime soon.

I got what I want in IL, smokefree poolhalls. And I don't really need to apologize to anyone for having it. We got by far the worst politicians in the country and they finally did something right for the first time in years ! And I look at it as payback for all the other crap we had to put up with for the last few decades. But again, you are free to start a petition and campaign to change it back. Heck, I'll even be the first person to sign the petition.......

I'm a smoker, but can understand and respect why people would not like to be in a smoke filled enviorment. But with out letting people smoke in doors, it's a proven fact that you will loose business to some degree.

On the other-hand, there are fantastic air filtration systems available. I mean ones that can move over 2000 cubic feet of air in a minute or less with minimal noise! You could basically section off a portion of the hall for smokers with these systems in place and it wouldn't disturb the non-smokers at all. That would prolly be the best solution for a struggling pool halls...

Go to your local hydro store and get 2-3 6inch can fans with ducting; run the intake side of the fan into the room (with the ducting) and run the exit-air outside and wallah! Your done! A system like that would clear a room of smoke in less than a minute! Heck, the smoker wouldn't even notice they are in a smoking room lol!

A new pool hall opened up here about 10 years ago and one thing he made sure to put in was the best air filtration system you could get at the time. This was almost a three million dollar pool hall so nothing was cheap in it. Even with very high ceilings and the best air filters you could get, I still came home smelling like a burnt cig. Luckily for me now, smoking is banned in my city but I've heard rumors the pool hall isn't doing very well since the ban went into effect almost 2 years ago. He even built a hundred thousand dollar smoking patio but he lost almost all of his day regulars who would come to eat. It's a catch 22 for me.

humidity and tobacco residue

Just because your friend (Leather Medic) said it was cigarette smoke that caused the damage, doesn't make it true. I don't know how second hand smoke can make "drops" on leather. This sounds very unlikely to me. "Drops" are made by liquids.

That being said, I thoroughly expect anyone and everyone who complains about second hand smoke to not drive any vehicle that burns gas. That pollutes the my clear air and contributes to smog and acid rain. I also expect those people to not buy or have any products that must be delivered by a gas burning vehicle. Furthermore, all complainers should not work in any industry or purchase any product from any factory that burns fossil fuels.

Now if you want to complain, please don't be a hypocrite and realize you too are affecting the quality of my air.
P.S. I don't smoke.
Drips of nicotine are caused by humidity condensating, picking up nicotine residue, then running down the surface they started on. Go touch some items in your smoking home that should be slick, like the cookie jar, and you'll find they're sticky. This becomes worse in places that have natural gas usage which has residue from that as well. Natural gas and tobacco residue= amber colored juice running down humid surfaces. Of course the stench can't be cleaned out of the inside of my cue case which now reeks
