New case against smoking

Hmmmm

Hmm, This is intresting I thought it was just me with my case smelling like cigs. But if you smell your wrap you wont be to pleased with the smell.

I know my lungs are messed up casue of second hand smoke but i also made them worse by breathing in RED AIR and burnt trash in Iraq, And now dealing with yellow sand here in Korea.

Sorry about your health. But props to your dedication, support and protection of the USA. Great Job !!!!

"People willing to trade their freedom for security deserve neither and will lose both."

Nobody is jeoporidizing the health of the public. It is a private institution in which you are entering, and are assuming all risks which are inherent to said institution.

Pool rooms are open to the public and your smoking would be fine if your smoke could be confined to the insides of your lungs alone. Unfortunately, you are polluting the air I breathe and your toxic smoke is affecting the health of everyone who who can smell it.

It won't matter soon. By 2030, smoking will be banned in all buildings open to the public

2030 ?? Geez, hope you don't have to wait that long. We have been enjoying our total smoking ban in bliss here for 3 years now. All public buildings, only exception is a tobacco shop that only sells tobacco and tobacco products. Heck, you can't even smoke outside at a baseball game (Sox or Cubs). And I"m loving it....

Rap & hip hop clubs tend to have more violence than other types of clubs. Let's just ban them for 'public safety'. You know, I could be an adult and just go somewhere else, but...I think rap is icky, so let's just ban it completely.

Pool halls that serve booze are a nuisance. You are forced to be around a bunch of obnoxious drunks, plus drink drivers kill people. Let's just ban serving alcohol. I could just go to a place that doesn't serve alcohol, but nah, let's just ban it completely. Public safety and all.

Totalitarianism (or totalitarian rule) is a political system where the state, usually under the power of a single political person, faction, or class, recognizes no limits to its authority and strives to regulate every aspect of public and private life wherever feasible.

225 years after our first war (of three) against it, and some people still don't get it.

OK, here is the problem with your argument. The businesses know full well that in order to open a business there are local ordinances, county regulations, state and federal laws to obey. By opening said business they agree to certain conditions as set forth by any legal authority to regulate your business.

Now, the owners knew that full well. Especially in populated areas because that is where their "business" comes from. So, with that being said, they could have elected to opened their business in Nowheresville, Montanta, where regulation and ordinanaces are few and far inbetween. But because there are very few folks in desolated areas, they decided to come to the big city (or suburbs) to open the business to make money. Thus, they got to follow the rules.

So, no you are not free to run your business any way you like. You think insurance companies, medical offices, hospitals, police departements, coal mines, ComEd, etc operate any way they like. Not on your life.

Heck, I like to drive 130mph, but because I don't live in Germany (autobahn) or Montana, I can't because of local and state laws. My choice, but I've decided it is better to live with a few rules that to live in the sticks and I don't speak German. Heck, I got some buddies that like the sticks... nothing wrong with that. But they had free choice to open the bar, poolroom or whatever anywhere they wanted, but chose here. Now they gotta follow the rules like the rest.

The "rules" you cite are what is known as positive law. It's bad law with bad consequences. Pointing out its existence in no way supports the validty of it. The only point you've made is that Persons tend to obey those who point guns at them. der

A Person is free until another takes away his freedom. That's the naturalness of negative law, the only real law.

Now, back to the arugments....Sev, how about some popcorn?

When I started this thread it was more on the amazement on my part on what was done to the finish of my case. Then thinking back on when I bought my house I had to clean the residue that was so bad from the previous owner, the only thing that worked was kilz primer and repaint. .I did not mean to offend anyone , as my girlfriend said I did with my addicted statement. But was astonished about having to re-stain my case. That's all. As far as the other ..this fire storm , will keep burning...just like my eyes. never mind anything else.

Really? bad laws? Yes, I know you prefer to live in a country with no laws, but that would be anarchy at best. I"m sure the health laws for restaurants are bad laws so that they have certain cleanliness laws so folks don't get sick or get served a burger with rat droppings, and building laws so contractors have to follow specific laws to protect the public. And speed limits so knuckleheads like me won't drive 150mph down the street.
And laws to protect children by requiring them to be in car seats, etc.

Heck, I can't even put up a fence in my yard unless it is a specified type approved by my community, no chain link fences, no above ground pools, no commercial or recreational vehicles parked in plain sight of the homes, no "funny color" paint on your house, etc.

Yeah, sticklers to say the least, but I chose to live here so I don't have to live next to some hillybilly moron that wants to put a car without wheels in his front lawn and shoot raccoons from his front porch, and drink Busch light without wearing a Tshirt while sitting on the street curb......so, yeah, I'm lucky to have some rules to live by....it's amazing how well the neighborhood operates without any problems because those "little" things that most neighbors fight about don't ever come up here....

Right or wrong, i'm gonna shoot some pool tonight and enjoy the smoke free environment, drink a cold beer (not busch light) and play a little one pocket. I don't have to change anyones mind because the "law" is on my side now and I"m loving it. So you all best get your mind right now, because the smoking law ain't gonna be a changing here any time soon !!!

Even the few smokers on my league team smoke, but it don't even bother than none. So, they gotta walks outside for a few minutes. When it's cold, they tell me they save money, because they don't smoke as much with cigs I think costing about $5 a pack now ??

Yeah, they actually closed a few of the clubs on the south side of Chicago. After like the 5th shooting, they closed a few down. The rap folks can't even live in peace in their own neighborhood, and shoot each other at will. I actually hoped they would keep them open, and they would evertually kill each other off completeley..... a guy can dream..... These guys are some low lifes to say the least...... 1000 murders a year in Chicago....... most in the same part of town..... I'd call them animals, but that would be an insult to animals who don't kill their own !!

Ok ...now tell us how you really feel ..lol..breathe brother ..
bottom line we can only change ourselves. Hopefully ..

Hey here's a bit of trivia for everyone: the first nationwide smoking ban in public buildings was put in place by Nazi Germany in 1941! Hitler himself hated cigarettes and once said they were "the wrath of the Red Man against the White Man for having been given hard liquor."

I bet he would be pleased to see his spiritual legacy alive and well in so many 'good Germans', even right here in the United States.

My son bought a pool table from the local vendors. We had to take it all apart and clean it to get it to smell a little better. How sad.

The smoke reminds me of a cockroach. they get in everywhere.

The big difference if that you can kill a cockroach.

SMOKE KILLS YOU AND SECOND HAND SMOKE CAN KILL EVERYONE ELSE JUST BY BEING THERE. VERY SAD.

I need to check and see if my friend in Olathe that goes to Shooters in Olathe is still alive. I havn't heard from him for a couple of years. He was going through Chemo for cancer.

He loved pool and was just trying to go in there during the day when the smoke wasn't so bad.

Is that kind of like taking a little poison versus taking a whole lot. how sad?

Where I come from the people spoke out against smoking in all public places within the city limits. It will take effect the end of this month.
It wasn't some totalitarian, dictitorial, Big Brother edict that caused the ban either, but a legally obtained pettion requesting a proposition be placed before the voters. Democracy at it's finest. :)

Voters passed and overwhelmingly supported Jim Crow laws too. That's why we have a constitution: to protect people's rights.

Let me ask you a question, Spider. Does the U.S. Constitution guarantee a citizen's right to vote?

De facto, yes. It does not spell it out explicitly, but does list what reasons someone cannot be denied the vote.

I don't see what this has to do with smoking bans.

Hmmm, even homicidal maniacs knew second hand smoke was bad way back in the old days !! Hey, even a freaking looney like Hitler has to have at least one good idea...I mean, a blind squirrel stills finds a nut once in awhie. Hitler also had his hand in the creating of the VW beetle, and they are still big sellers today....so freaking what !

uh oh, I also drive the same brand car that Hitler was driven around in... another big so freaking what...

And I heard Mussolini loved smoking and didn't mind smoking where ever or whenever he wanted... So, I guess we should be proud of his legacy as well, huh??

Been there

done this, done this, done this, do we really need to do this again?

Yes, I am a smoker, and have no intentions of quitting. I have smoked for about 50 years. I don't believe what they say about second hand smoke, and never will.

Yep, most folks with a serious addiction problem are seldom the first to notice it or even acknowledge it. So kudos to you, I think?

The VW Beetle hasn't been made since 2003. Mussolini was another rabid non-smoker, and pushed anti-smoking laws in Italy after his buddy Hitler started doing it in Germany.

Classic.

Just as most people who advocate fascist policies and disgusting attacks on the constitution are quick to get indignant when called out on it.
