I just picked up 2 Brunswick Medalist tables from a pool hall that closed. I was very fortunate to find these but I am building a Custom pool room in my back yard and I left the folded felt in there, unfortunarley the whole room smells like cigarette smoke, would it be wise to machine wash the cloth before putting it on? Due to budget reasons I am going to reuse both felts (which are in very good condition).

I have owned throughout my life 5 pool tables, all different too. I can say this, I have heard of people who have done that, and the felt actually fell apart slowly, fraying and what not. I have used simonis all my life and I can say I wouldn't but maybe someone knows a way of doing other than using some light frebreeze.

I had mine dry cleaned and put it back on..... worked great. The cloth was Championship tour 3030. It cost me $10.

Dry cleaning may work. Machine washing will not. You could also just hang the cloth on a clothesline for a couple of days. Febreeze is a good suggestion too. Again, this is a question better asked in the Main forum, or even the Mechanic's forum, than the Ask An Instructor forum.

Thanks for the feed back, and Scott thanks for that tip. I'm new to AZ and with help from you guys I'll be able to manage my posts better.

I also have tried dry-cleaning and it appears to have worked fine.
The cloth must be in very good condition to begin with, and of course you must use extra care when re-installing previously stretched cloth.

(sorry to butt into the instructor threads)

Mr. Bond...No problem there sir. People who have done this are the ones to get answers from, and I don't mind anybody posting here!

Thanks for ya'lls feedback, I've decided to give it a try and have them dry cleaned. To give ya'll an idea how badly it needs cleaning I have a funny story.

I picked up these tables from a Clicks billiards that closed down about two years ago. Well the new tenants were moving in and the property manager needed these out quickly. The day my Father and my twelve year old son went to dismantle them a crew of workers were there stripping the flooring. We got there a little before noon and started the work. After a while we got the side skirts and rails removed. By this time the workers were sitting at the counters next to us enjoying there lunch and watching us try to take apart the tables. As I lifted the felt off the table I was shocked to see a horrendous amount of chalk powder and dust that had apparently accumulated over the two years it sat there. Well I decided to whip the felt it the air to try to dislodge as much of the dust as I could. After 3 or 4 whips I could hardly see much less breath. As I looked over to my son and father I noticed this look of disbelief. They looked shocked and embarrassed. As I glanced over to the workers I realized why, they were burried in a cloud of dust, coughing and hacking. The majority of the nasty suffocating dust was in their direction. They quickly tried to grab their burgers and drinks and tried running from the cloud all awhile tipping and knocking over stools as if their lifes depended on it. The whole time they were working I had not seen them move this fast! I was really embarrassed and I felt badly. I offered to replace there lunch but they refused. At the time it happened it I didn't find any humor in it but later when we were enjoying our own lunch we had a pretty good laugh!!!
