AZ needs a new forum category

How about a forum where you use your real name and are vetted by AZ. Registered members only.

Maybe some good conversations and debates without the regular assortment of flamers and trolls. It would be nice to be able to review and weigh in on a number of topics that have some thought and insight without having to sort through the BS.

Different perspectives and disagreements are part of life and can be productive, but, zero tolerance for the vicious comments and consistently negative perspective some folks demonstrate.
 
I think it's an interesting idea, one worthy of thought. It would be nice to converse with known entities instead of running the risk of mean-spirited posts written by trolls and bullies.

The funny thing is that the long-time members here, even though they don't post with their real name, we have met each other in person and know each other, so a "real" name is not needed.

The climate of the forum has changed. In some respects, it has grown exponentially, and I do enjoy the colloquy of international pool culture. It is also nice to read about all the pool smut in the action world. The streams have blossomed into a new pool industry which offers hope to some as long as the money doesn't run out to keep 'em going.

Most of the time, it is folks with big egos who feel they want to be in the spotlight and only their words matter. Sometimes it's people who have inferiority problems and try to follow the bullies in order to gain a little forum clout.

I think a private sub-forum with *verified* members is good. Count me in.

That's a good observation, one I had not considered.

Although I agree with other comments made, I am in favor of having a credible section of AZ for posting with real name.

This is spot on Neil. Guilty here too but I am able to type fast/multi task so I don't feel too guilty about it.

Stick the first name basis only. Your new pledge name is....Flounder (greenie for whoever says the movie).

I, too, would love to see more users use their real name as their ID. That would be a great thing on any forum.

Before I click "Submit Reply", I like to ask myself: "is this something I would give another user green rep for?". If it isn't, I normally won't chime in. I don't have a lot of posts, but I'd like to think of them as on-topic with the discussion, and maybe even a bit useful in the discussion.

Right on the money there Neil. I noticed this trend years ago. I always wished I had a cushy job I could do that. Of the obvious downside is a less productive worker. It happens in all areas and can cost John Q public. The obvious glaring example is government but it goes way beyond that example.

Oh, BTW the OP has a good idea, I use my first name just to keep it simple but many people know who I am and where to find me in Phoenix.

Neil, it won't really matter if the name is used or not used. Companies have the ability now to check every website you visited and how long you were on the website. Whether you posted or did not post has no bearing because they already know you were there.

Most of the time they are looking for persons visiting "restricted" sites like porn, gambling, etc. Most companies have liberal policies on internet usage because the younger folks grew up with it and companies understand folks are gonna check yahoo, facebook, etc. Yes, a few companies have zero tolerance, but then they can just restrict your usage to most sites especially yahoo, facebook, CBS sports, etc.. I dunno how "cushy" my job is, but I check whats happening here when I have a little downtime. When it's slower and I have my projects all caught up, I can goof off a little more. When there's stuff to do, that's what I do.

I don't feel guilty at all.

Seriously, this ain't cushy. But it ain't diggin a ditch, the air conditioning works and the paychecks don't bounce.
