Racy pictires. Are they necessary?

Jason, I was going to post some more of her in pool action, but after Jam's comments and views on my current pics, maybe it's better that I don't.

I don't want anyone thinking that when she's bending over taking a shot, that what she's really doing is trying to be suggestive by protruding her posterior in order to exude sexiness!;)

See, now I'm going to have to change my avatar and sig pic's because my intent was not to offend anyone. I never looked at those pictures that way at all. I thought they were nice and even classy by todays standards. My apologies to anyone that they may have offended. I will start looking for an avatar that is more appropriate.

Now where did I put that picture of me in a thong?:p

This topic has been brought up several times over the years, and unfortunately, you -- and I -- are in the minority.

There is a feature that allows you to TURN OFF all avatars. This might be a good solution for you, so as not to allow your family to view vulgar and demeaning photos of women.

No there are more of us. We don't need it.

Hey, don't take what I wrote the wrong way. You asked for comment about your avatar and sig line, and I provided my opinion. Believe me, I'm sure my opinion is in the minority on this forum.

I did state I did not see anything racy about the photos in your avatar or sig line. If anything, I would think you would desire to show her skills set on a field of green to establish she's a genuine thoroughbred pool player.

And for the record, I'm not offended by them. They are not pool related, and that's okay. Neither is my avatar most times.

Don't be getting all sensitive like me. I've got enough sensitivity to cover all of us on this forum; thus, why I'm responding to your post. I would never want to hurt anyone's feelings, and I apologize if I have hurt yours.

Dang it! I still don't have it!! That was my attempt at being sarcastic funny and obviously failed miserably. I'm not one to get my feelings hurt easily, and I didn't take anything you said in a negative way. I thought by using those silly Smilies that it would help me, but apparently I'm hopeless!

I have no issues with what you said, and have no intention of changing my avatar and pics. Unless a moderator says I have to.

Your good people Jam as are most of the people on this site and I have enjoyed reading almost all of everyone's posts. There are a few that get carried away, but for the most part, everyone has a great sense of humor and I would love to meet you all someday.

Now, I'm going to go cry in the corner for having made you think that I was in any way upset by your comment.:crying:

LOL! Don't do that. I do enough crying for us both when it comes to this forum. :embarrassed2:

For some, this forum represents a vehicle to enjoy pool-related reading. It is also an informative source to keep up to date on what's happening in the pool world. It is nice for me to read about pool culture around the world.

I do believe that most members come here to learn, network, socialize, exchange ideas, and have fun.

I think I remember seeing Yu Ram Cha at the 2003 DCC, subject to check, if memory serves me right. I could be wrong, but I think I remember sweating a couple of her matches in the banks tournament. If it was her, she beat a few male champs, and the crowd was roaring with cheers and applause after every good shot. She's good!

Apart from the tournaments that she has won, I still think her biggest victory was when she came back from 8-4 down to beat SVB 10-8 in the Predator International 10 Ball Championship.

She is a true champion, and I had the pleasure of meeting her here in Virginia before the US Open a couple of years ago. She's an incredibly sweet girl, which begs the question...what is she doing with Charlie Williams?:yikes:

I want to apologize to the OP. I will replace my avatar with my new one below as soon as I remember how to do it.

Should I make this my permanent avatar?

Well I don't know. At first I thought it was a great idea, but Jam has taught me something. That leaf brings my attention to his crotchal region, and therefore is suggestive. Plus that leaf just has a very big green tip and I'm jealous!!:D

Now that's funny! Thanks for tickling my funny bone. I needed that! :killingme:

and parents could easily just act like parent and control what their children look at.

i hate listening to tampon commercials!!!! but instead of complaining about it and trying to get the commercials taken off the air i just mute them........

In a very small way this is the same logic that's got america wussing out every time we look around. ,,,"What's that you want to drive in america but don't feel like learning english?". we'll just offer a test in what ever language you speak even though the road signs are only in english!!!! it's BS. I'm so sick of everyone being asked to change because someone doesn't like something this small.

sure being a parent would be a lot easier if everyone else got rid of thing you didn't want your kids to know about but we won't.

Demeaning women with salicious avatar pictures, yep that sure is an important part of this forum, and life in general eh? Respect.....what's that all about? Then it must be acceptable to ''slightly'' bully another person if you don't too far, or does common sense come into play.

Right, because putting in a salicious avatar picture means that is how someone feels about women in general. Here let me do my caveman grunt. Why don't you ask my fiance if that is how I treat her? Ask her if I don't open the door for her, take her out to dinner, cook for her, not talk about women as sex objects blah blah etc etc etc. Get real. This is a forum. Turn off the avatars. If you don't like it don't let the door hit you on the way out.

It's not me, my concern is the publics perception of our sport and our culture, its a small but real perception of how Americans in general percieve pool players, we don't NEED this attitude anymore, its called evolution.
When someone who's never been on our forum visits us for the first time impressions are made.

Tell me then, How does this Help to improve the publics perception of our game and our pro players?

I just visited four PGA golf forums and I did not find ONE single avatar that was demeaning Women in Any way shape or form, must be a reason Huh?

I know that the avatars will remain but the best reasons they should go are that they create what can be considered a hostile environment, here and in a workplace. Any posting of a picture of a girl or lady playing pool is almost certain to be responded to with a crude comment, the nature of the site. I have to think a part of that is the overall tone of the site with the avatars that are so popular.

A more serious issue for many is that the avatars and the occasional image other places aren't workplace safe. I worked at a company that employs tens of thousands of people, maybe hundreds of thousands I don't know after retiring in '93. We were free to surf the net on our time but a single complaint that we were creating a hostile environment for female workers led to instant dismissal, I'm talking within an hour or two. A female coworker complained to me because I wore a cap to work one day that said "Hooters 500" on it with no image. I had attended Richard Petty's last race and received a promotional package that included the cap. It happened to be the only solid cloth cap I had at the time so I wore it on a rainy day. Had the lady chosen to complain to management instead of me I would have been gone before noon.

Obviously the above story represents runaway political correctness but that is often the real world today. When I spent time on other forums the avatars had to either be forum related or family pictures with the occasional picture of a pet or hobby. This seems reasonable to me and was the policy at my forum when I allowed avatars.

This site, both members and management, exhibited considerable bias in the past when several women put up avatars showing males that were no more offensive from a purely intellectual standpoint than the pictures that men post. I have to admit my gut reaction was "damn that is disgusting!" but I couldn't say it was fair to object to the ladies doing the same thing the men did. I think most here would howl if there were as many pictures of scantily clad men in similar poses as there are women. I'd definitely turn off avatars as I have in the past. However I found that I missed some like Joey's POW/MIA avatar and how could we know that there was a red rep run on without Smorg's famous cat in the red helmet avatar?

This battle was lost long ago but I'll add my voice to those that think that a pool forum isn't the place for these avatars. Not that I find them offensive, just out of place for the normal forum content. Considering that they are offensive to some readers, are out of place, and cause family or workplace issues for some people I think they shouldn't be here.

Very good post. I appreciate a beautiful woman as much as the next guy but, I come to this site to learn about pool and ogle pool cues. The reason there are so many laws and regulations in society is because people always push the limits beyond what is deemed socially acceptable and have no regard for anyone else's opinion or situation.

To put the record straight, the avatars in no way offend me. However, if there were males in similar poses or apparel I would not hesitate to turn off avatars. You have to ask yourself if that would offend you before you defend your avatar.

I know what you are saying, but there are A LOT of other things that can be done to help with the perception of our sport outside of limiting avatar pictures. Comparing golf forums and people to pool players is a bad example even though I know why you mentioned it. Pool is not an athletic sport, is more of a gamble sport, and draws a completely different crowd than golf.

Your only argument is when a new person is looking on the site for a first time but even then a person can turn off that avatars if they join. I highly doubt there are that many people that see it and say no way I am going to read or join that site. Does it happen? Sure...but I bet not very often. This site doesn't seem to be lacking of participants.

it doesn't have to and isn't supposed to improve the public perception of our game. this is an internet forum!!!!! and those are just pictures people picked for their avatar. anyone under 50 is going to understand that. whats next we have to sensor all of our posts because it might not look good for pool in general?? BS excuse bro. You don't like it. so You should be the one to change. not You don't like it so EVERYONE else should change
