Even though she is now has two children in their twenties and a day job as president of the Harry O. Culp Insurance Agency, that doesn't leave much time for practice. Paski still enters national tournaments.

She is the only charter member of the Women's Professional Billiards Association still on the tour and is not nearly ready to quit a sport that is as much mental as physical.

"In billiards you can keep playing longer than other sports, given that you can still execute what's in your head," she said. "With execution levels that are equal, the older more experienced player will probably edge out the younger player."

Here's Vicki's pool résumé:

  • By 1976, national amateur champion, later becoming a founding member of the WPBA;
  • 1987, Paski, first female billiards analyst for the sports network ESPN;
  • 1988, she appeared on first trading card, just before her daughter Jessica was born;
  • 1991, after elected WPBA president, struck deal with ESPN to televise the national women's tour;
  • 1995, negotiated a six-figure deal with ESPN for a "Challenge of the Sexes" pitting the men's and women's.

Back in Grand Ledge, Michigan, in 2001, working with several other business people, she founded the Youth Enrichment Services (YES Center) with its "Pool after School" program. There, she can be found on a regular basis giving lessons and holding tournaments for middle and high school students.

I believe she was also on the advsory board of pro's for busch league when it first started. It now is known as APA.

JAM...I met and played with her son in a poolroom in Chicago last winter. Nice young man, and played pretty well. He was very proud to be Vicki's son! He's in school at Michigan State, so he has his priorities straight too! :thumbup:

That's good to hear. Looks like pool is still popular within her own family, which is nice. A family that plays together stays together! :p

I agree. It does seem as if the popular threads on this forum are sometimes -- not always -- Earl bashings, industry member ripoff reports, cyber-cides, or flame threads. :embarrassed2:

A positive pool thread, one which showcases the good things happening in pool, doesn't seem to get the same attention. :frown:

Here's Vicki Paski's website. It's very tastefully done and cool, especially the excellent pool photos: VickiPaski.com.

Here's one photo that caught my eye from 1979 that is on her website. AzBilliards Gold Star of the Day goes out to who can name all those pool peeps in the pic! :grin:

Bill, I can't see the pic. The only thing I see is a white square with a red "X."

Let me see if I can copy your link and attach it. It might be a browser compatibility thingie. I use IE.

She's a real cutie pie! :smile:

JAM, I had forgotten to allow external links for that gallery. I think it's fixed now.

She's so pretty. I love the fact that she's still into pool after she grew up, and she seems to be into pool in a positive way. Pool could use a few more just like her! :cool:

Did she go by the name of Vicki Frechin at that time. I played in that tourney and I remember playing a Vicki Frechin in the BCA Team 8-Ball portion of the tournry. Maybe I am confused but not sure.
