Poison issue.
This is tricky.
As a retailer I do not really like giving bad reports on items from quality manufacturers - but if the shoe fits...
I have sold 9 of the Poison VX 2.9 jump break cues in the last 18 months. All the same model - VXBB 2.9 (the black one). As I do not have a demo model, I have borrowed a friend's cue when showing prospective buyers. I like people to try what they buy. I find it is the only way to make sure they are truly happy with a purchase.
All the prospective buyers were happy with the cue they tried - breaking and jumping. When they received their own version, 6 buyers stated that it was not anything like the cue they tested before purchase. The same process was followed each time. Get the original they tried and test it against their purchase. Each time it was quite obvious that the performance was lacking. No visible difference in any part of the cue - tip, joint, shaft or butt. Just completely different hit.
I replaced 4 buyer's purchases. 3 with the Fury JB, one paid extra for a Tiger Icebreaker. All happy now. 2 are bangers and are happy just to have a nice looking cue...they just wanted to let me know there was a difference. That's right - bangers and they still noticed.
Told my supplier about this issue and they said they would forward the feedback on to Poison.
I know of 2 players in my area with the newer version VXSTR 2.9 (lime colour). They are happy with their cues.
I have sold 16 of the Fury JB cues (including the 3 replacements). All versions - JB-BS, JB-NB and JB-RW. All buyers very happy and surprised how well they play for the price. Some of these guys have $1500 play cues, but would not change their JB from Fury.
I still cannot explain why there was a difference in playability. I have offered the replaced versions as test cues to new buyers and they usually choose something else. If they have tried a good one and want to order it for themself, I have to grudgingly let them know it is hit and miss if they get a good one, and offer one of the 3 to show why.
I have only seen this issue in one other product in 20 years of selling cues. It was a name brand jump cue. The only reason I can come up with is that sometimes in large production runs - a bad version can slip through the quality control net. I just got 6...lucky me.
I am not here to knock the Poison brand. I have customers with Poison play cues who are very happy. The problem may now be fixed I am not sure. I would like to know if anybody else has come across the same issue.
As usual my post is lengthy...lol. I am a great believer in as much info as possible when choosing a cue - something that really should be an extension of your arm.
Hope it was helpful.
