no more free water at Hanks

Funny you should say that. I saw a regular filling an empty bottle in the mens room.
Some of the regulars that I know were quite upset at this paying for water.

And as one poster said the prices are pretty good compared to other parts of the country.
And the home less pool player that hangs out there just might be the best player in the state.

I'll lay 3/1 the regualar was Angel :angel2:

Gee, a guy angry over $1 bottle of water is also bitter about how much he pays in table time. What a shocker!

hahah yeah it wasn't like I saw it 5 days a week or anything. Let me just ask you this: how often do you question your table time, complain about the hourly rate, and then ask for a discount or flat rate?

I think we both know the answer to that. :D

You don't read too good, do you??

haha sure whatever you say man.

To steal and paraphrase a line from poker: "if you can't figure out who the deadbeat nit is in the poolhall, it is probably you"

I play at a pool room that has tournaments once a week. I watch about half the people who play in the tournament come in 2 minutes before the tournament starts to sign up. They spend nothing while they are there and there is NO charge for table time for the tournament. All entry fees are paid back. If you can't spend a dollar in the pool room then stay home.

I guess I'm done with this thread. Some of you aren't smart enough to read a post for what it actually says. Amazing how some of you think I'm a nit because I won't spend a buck for a little water, even though I spend twice that on something I do want. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if some of the same people on here won't support the local tournaments because they can't win, complain about the green fees if the do enter, don't buy every product the room offers, ect. Yeah, I shouldn't be allowed in any rooms ever again because I think paying a dollar for a bottle of water is asinine. But when you buy a cue at your local room (if you ever have), you try and get him to lower the price. Keep on living in your little rose colored fantasy lives guys.

I guess this shows there are two sides to the story. first off, if your business staying open is dependent on me buying a bottle of water, you better close the doors, you have no idea how to run a pool hall.

I guess I'm one of the old timers that won't buy a bottle of water. I think I have only bought two bottles in my life, and I felt bad when I did. Funny how people complain about those that don't want to pay for a glass of water to drink because it hurts the business to give it away, but the same people have no problem taking a free GALLON of water and taking a dump in it.

When I go there to play pool, that is why I am there. I am not there to support the business. I am there to either practice, or to make some money myself. Funny how the same people that complain about not supporting one business man complain about supporting another business man when they have to pay the time when they lose. Or complain when the better players actually want to charge them for info so they can get better.

Bottled water is one of the biggest scams out there. But, you young 'uns have grown up seeing it, so it doesn't bother you like it does us older folk. Now, if the room owner is going to offer bottled water, then a dollar is about right. I say that because he has to go buy the stuff himself, and make a little profit on it. But, I also feel he shouldn't be buying it to start with. Most bottled water is nothing more than tap water anyways. Some just filter it a little more, some don't.

As to sitting around the room for a few hours- remind me next time I'm working the counter to kick you butt out the door as soon as you are done shooting. It's called good business for those that don't have a clue. I might be sitting around for a few hours today and not spend a dime. I'm window shopping, ever heard of that?? But tomorrow, I might be in a game and spend a hundred or two on table time. Not like the one or two hours of table time you spend. Having bodies in the room is WAY better than having no bodies in the room. If the parking lot is empty, people will drive right on by.

Years ago, I basically lived in a pool room for a while. There were about half a dozen of us that did. The room was semi-divided in half by the bathrooms. One side was the action side, the other side the banger side. Any time you came in you could find at least 3 of us laying on the benches. Guess which side made the owner the most money? Yeah, the side with us "frreeloaders" made the owner 3 times the amount of money as the other side.;)

So, all some of you have done here, is show that you really don't have a clue.;)

My "buy a bottle of water" meant, in my mind, to at least spend some money in the pool hall. Forgive if it came off otherwise. I have no beef whatsoever with people going in and shooting pool all day while paying time, and not ordering a bloody thing. :)

Where do you guys get this type of reasoning from?? The pool room is a business, not a charity. No one that enters the doors is obligated to spend a dime there. Why do you take this attitude towards pool rooms, but do not extend it to other businesses? When was the last time you or someone in your family walked around the mall and didn't buy anything? It the same thing.

Did it evger occur to you that if all the people you say aren't spending anything, but are just there for the tournament (which they paid for) did stay home, that the tournaments might end, and then the people that do spend wouldn't come because there is no reason to? If the owner isn't charging green fees, then he can't complain about not making anything. It's simply called good business. Don't complain about not making anything when you are giving it away for free.

You've been pretty obvious about what sort of customer you are from your posts here. Anyone who has worked in a room or bar knows the type.

And yes, there are many people who enter pool tournaments they have no chance of winning, don't ***** about greens fees (or $1 for a bottle of water), buy shapers and other small tools from the room they support instead of the internet, and have even bought cues from rooms they frequent. I know I have done all of those, and aside from buying more cues, do all the rest on a regular basis. :)

Edit:

A business is in business so people can come in and not spend a dime? Makes perfect sense.

I don't know why I'm bothering to type this, because I have no doubt that you still won't "get it". Paying a dollar for water is stupid in my mind. I won't do it unless I have no other choice. That does NOT mean that I don't spend any money there. And, just because I don't spend any money there today, does not mean that I won't spend a bunch there tomorrow. Maybe you can get one of the kindergartners at the local school to explain it to you.

This thread wan't about spending money in a pool room, which you and others tried to turn it into, it is about paying a dollar for a little water.

The initial post was about how the owner charges for water now, when it was free before. Bottom line for me is, even bringing this up just looks bad, sorry but true. I mean if you are at all concerned about water going from free to $1, i think there are problems there at some, perhaps many, levels. I guess the thread itself is my problem, not the fact that people wont buy $1 water. Ha.

Me either, since you said you were "done with this thread"

Paying a dollar for water is stupid in my mind. I won't do it unless I have no other choice.

Which is what this thread is about. The owner of that room has said you must pay $1 for water. Which lead to your indignation of someone charging for water.

Maybe you can get one of the kindergartners at the local school to explain it to you.

Ah, more base insults and ad homs. I'm sorry you are so upset.

Funny, your very first post in this thread was half about the water and half about "spending money in a pool room", the pool business, 'window shopping' and how much you spend in table time. Pot meet kettle?

Oh by the way, if you are walking around a mall and not buying anything or spending any money they will kick you out. Look for the 'no loitering' signs. ;)

Yeah, I have a weakness for trying to explain common sense to some people. I'm trying to cure that because it's like beating my head against a wall.

What, I'm not allowed to have an opinion?

I wouldn't be if you didn't try and assume things so much.

Nope, if you hadn't noticed, I was responding also to what others had already wrote.

Don't have any of them here. Senior citizens use it as a track to get their daily walking in. And, obviously, you completely missed the point once again.
Interesting that none of you cared to address the free water you get in the bathroom. To be fair, you get what, maybe about 8 bottles of water to the gallon? What would you say if the owner said you had to pay $8 for the water you used to take a dump? And, don't lie and say you wouldn't complain about it. And don't say you would just bring a "doggie bag" just in case you needed it while you were there.

I'm assuming the owner would chill, filter and purify the water used in this toilet? If not, the analogy doesn't work too well.

Trust me, I know the feeling!

What, I'm not allowed to have an opinion?

Of course you are! Just as others are allowed to respond to the things you post.

I wouldn't be if you didn't try and assume things so much.

Well base insults are no way for adults to discuss things. If you are so defensive and angry about being called out for nit behavior/statements then it obviously hits close to home. If it didn't apply most people would laugh it off. Your responses say a lot.

Nope, if you hadn't noticed, I was responding also to what others had already wrote.

Oh, so you're allowed to discuss whatever you want, but others should only discuss $1 water and not be allowed to 'twist' the discussion into talk about spending in pool halls? Come on now, is that even logical?

Most of the fast food places in hollywood/la in the mid 90's had bathrooms that operated on quarters: you must pay to go inside. Unless you spend some money and buy a burger or whatever, then you get free tokens.

If a pool hall tried charging for bathroom visits I wouldn't mind a bit. Because guaranteed there would be free tokens for customers who spend money in the place, so it would never affect me. :D

Edit: I must confess: I used to throw out homeless guys trying to use our bathroom on a weekly basis. Should I feel guilty about that? After all, maybe they were 'window shopping'

The expenses for water in the bathroom is exactly why they should be charging $2.00 for a bottle of drinking water. I guess you don't get that.
