Are there any suppliers or individuals making steel beds for taig type lathes?

Hey there... I am in the process of tooling up to make steel beds for the taig based lathes. They will be made out of pre-hard 4140. We are going to make 48" beds to start unless there is a demand for 60" or 72" beds.
Should be a couple weeks and I will have them ready to go. I can let you know though as soon as it's rollin!
Thanks, Geoff
Cost has not been figured out exactly yet, it depends on how much material we buy. The amount of material we buy depends on how much demand there seems to be when we're all tooled up and ready to roll. Should be about the same as Lee charged for a 48" which is $175.00
Not sure on the larger sizes as of yet but as soon as I know I will let everyone on here know.
Thanks
Geoff
I was in the steel and grinding business for 20 years. 4140PH is a good choice for the lathe bed, as the PH stands for pre hardened to between 28-32 Rockwell. It can be hardended further than that also. You would machine the part oversize and send it out to be heat treated to 48-52 and then grind down to size. It may be overkill though.
I, for one, would be interested in a 60".

Well, I am glad to see that there are quite a few people interested in these. I will let everyone know as soon as they are ready to go.
