Maybe something as simple as putting that shaft on the end of your drill, getting out some sandpaper, and extending the taper 3 or so inches along with a slightly softer tip would make that sucker feel like an entirely different cue.

If you like the style of cues Dale builds, it's hard to believe he can do it for the money he charges and they are definitely a good deal.
Buyers should be aware because of the low prices they charge on e-bay, there are some shorts cuts. The "ebony black" is synthetic, which is fine for inlays. Unless a cue says gabon ebony, it's synthetic but does have the appearance of ebony. The joints are most likely radial copies (I still think these are better than the previous "quick release" style joint). Potentially this can result in an inconsistent fit especially when fitting a Predator or other aftermarket shaft. But if shaving cost is a concern, then a Uniloc brand is an expensive component when purchased in the thousands.
His shafts are definitely stiff. My experience is his cues are forward weighted with a heavy shaft. I played with one for about six months - it just wasn't my style of cue but there was nothing wrong with it. It was a really cool looking stabilized maple burl and ebony cue - I loved the way it looked. I really used to like some of his cored burl cues he used to build. They would auction for $500 - $800 even on e-bay.
I've dealt with him before. I found Dale to be very responsible and reliable to deal with. He is trying to make a living in a tough market and found a niche that doesn't involve traditional channels.

What kind of issues did you have that he took care of? Why is he responsible and reliable? I found him to be arrogant after the sale.
I wasn't going to say anything but considering your the second person to say something about his customer service, I think it's ok to give my 2cents. I met him at a tournament a few years ago and he was horribly rude, wouldn't give anybody any information on his cues except price and oh ya thats a nice one. Basically if you didn't have your hundreds out ready to hand them to him he had nothing to say, and this wasn't just me it was anybody and everybody else that came by his booth. I seen several people trying to get information on cues they liked and he all but ignored them. I liked the cues and this was when he was still making them himself and people said they were still good cues and was highly considering buying one but I thought that if he was that rude then I didn't want to give him my business. All I can think is if he is that rude to someone looking to buy one of his cues then why would he give a flying rats a*s what you thought AFTER he has your money?

I was in the market about a year ago for a cue and was following ebay regularly. I noticed that DP cues had some really nice wood and inlay for the price of $100-200 but there was a huge difference in his high end price of $1000+.
I sent him an email and asked if the difference in price was based purely on the materials or if they played differently. He said all his cues play the same but he didn't address the quality of materials.
I never buy a cue based on whether I can get my money back in resale so price and prestige mean very little to me. I just want a cue that hits the way I like.
I have noticed that the $100-200 ebay cues do not show the same quality of wormanship as the $1000 cues with clean lines along the inlay. But then that's what you would expect for the discounted price. Nonetheless, I have played with a DP and it seemed to have a solid hit.

I haven't had a lot of dealings with him, but for example I called him and discussed some shaft options. We settled on a custom 30" shaft. He made it and shipped it in two days. Plus his auction shipping was fast. On another occasion I ordered an additional shaft and he shipped it same day. He is definitely all business.
So anyway, he may not win any "patience with our fellow human beings" prizes, but my impression is he is a hard working guy!

for what it's worth, i bought a DP off here. paid 200 w/custom JP's. i'm nothing but a banger but i don't detect any problem with the hit. nice and solid. IMHO these cues are fine for a new player, or in bars. like others have stated don't expect huge resale value.
What does a flying Rats Ass look like? and how does it apply to this thread. I understand your a bit unhappy with Mr. Perry, I have made some negative comments about him my self in the past.
I suppose sometimes you just have to get shit off your chest, hope you feel better now, I know after I was done I did.
But, back to the subject at hand and the point of this thread the cues are worth the small amount of money they are sold for, and in the end when some one is on a budget little is more important.
