Anyone with knowledge of longer cues?

I've recently taken to shooting with my cue extenssion on when I practice at home. It's an extenssion similar to the one Johny Archer uses. Mine is hollow and made of plastic. When it is on, my cue is probably 70 inches long, the weight or the balance of the cue is shifted forward. I can't express how much better it feels to shoot with such a long cue for me, so much so that I would like to get one made this way. But I don't know too much about that. I doubt that my shaft should be 35 inches long for example but I don't kniow. Can the weigth forward ratio be replicated? Do cue maker lathe accept these conditions? What about cue cases? I know Mike Gulyassy (sorry Mike if I butchered your last name) make a monster cue for Earl. Now I am no Pearl and would probably be subject to some ridicule if I showed up with such a cue, however logic tells me if Alex or any of his countrymen at 5 foot tall or a few more inches shoot with 58 inch cues, at over 6 feet I would probably need more, even Parica shoots with 63 inch cue I believe? I found the link below which is a start, but would like to get some info from AZ'ers who might know or could point me in the right direction.

Thanks

I'm 6'1" and shoot with a 60" cue. If I use my longest shaft, I can stretch it out to 61". It's as long as it needs to be (for me anyways).

I don't know if I'll ever buy another cue, but if I ever do it has to be a MINIMUM of 60".

Forward balance is not a problem. Most cuemakers have the equipment to make longer cues (60"-62"). Most production cases will hold 31" butts and shafts. very few will hold 32". Please note the measurement is from top of joint pin or joint protector to bottom of rubber bumper (60" cue with 30" shaft and 30 butt and radial pin, the butt will measure close to 32" in total length).

Look at snooker cue cases. This one is for a 3/4 joint, not pool's 1/2.

For example, I have a 58" snooker cue.
Shaft 44"
Butt 14"
Mini butt 6" - screws into the butt to make the cue 64"
Telescoping extension 19 1/2" to 33 1/2" to give a cue up to 77" long :D
The extension will screw into the butt, but that is not how it would be used :D 91 inches

As for Alex, he plays snooker - 2011 Canadian champion - and knows how to use the ladies aid :D

Ray Readon had a 58" snooker cue.
It got damaged and was cut down to 54"
He won the World snooker championship 6 times.
It is the archer, not the arrow. :D

This is the biggest problem I've run into... 60" cues with j/p's are a problem fitting into any of the major players....JB Cases...Whitten...Engles....etc. It's a little aggravating. I've been waiting forever for a custom that will fit my 60 inchers. One's an Al Bautista, and the other an Ed Prewitt.
Neither will fit in any of my favorite cases without taking the j/p's off along with the bumper...This may seem trivial, but it aggravates me to be honest.
I even ordered a Porper case made to fit 34" cues until my custom comes...and the damn butts don't fit into the case(the holes are too thin). I think I'll use it to start a fire...
Anyways, Finding a case to fit longer cues can be a huge hassle... Custom cases are your best option...but then you have to wait, and wait, and wait...
ARRGGHHH...LOL!!

Bullshooter69 Here on AZ makes cases that fit the 61" cues I make. Not a long wait time either.

Thanks for the head's up Larry ... Bullshooter makes some very attractive cases too. Honestly, I'm just tapped out right now on orders :o...and saving up for my avatar LOL... I REALLY like his Capt'n America case tho!!

My 60" Carolina Custom (split evenly 30-30) fits easily in my Instroke case, and it has VERY long joint protectors, about an inch and a half...no problem at all.

To the OP's question, I'd be skeptical about shafts being too much longer than 30"...with a pro or parabolic taper you might get a lot more flex than you'd want...would depend on the maker, I'm sure most would work hard to make it work for you...but just because a maker's willing to do something wild doesn't mean they necessarily should! There's a lot of cues out there that fit custom quick release extensions, and I know a lot of players that just keep them on all the time, preferring the balance.

Would it be possible for a cue-maker to make a 12" extension which would fit inbetween your present shaft and the butt and keep that profile correct. That would give you a 70" cue with minimal investment. This would also allow you to fit your cue into your present cue case. Don't know what that would do to the balance. Does anyone know?
I've been watching the Van Boening/Earl Strickland match on the 10 foot table. Earl is magnificent. At times Shane is playing extremely well too but at times he isn't. Guess that's why Earl beat him. Earl wields that 70" cue like a spear. What a stroke, perfect position, and great shot making..

Schmelke

Makes length if you do not want to pay big bucks. 32/32, 32/30, etc. Call Dave, he is good to work with.

I saw someone playing pro level matches on youtube the other day (can't remember who) with a cue that had a quick release extending -telescopic- butt. The extra length is right there in the cue at all times. He didn't have to go to his chair to add an extension or use a longer than stock case, just a couple turns released the butt and it telescopically extended about a foot, and locked into place with a couple more turns.

I'd like to find out where that cue came from, who makes it and more about it.

tried a 32" Schmelke shaft

I needed a cue on the fly and got one of theirs. Just as much curiosity as anything else I got a 32" shaft. Wasn't particularly thin 12.75 or 13 I believe, but that thing was such a noodle it made my early Meucci shaft seem like a crowbar in comparison. Cut two inches off of the tip end and it made it a plenty playable shaft. Longer shafts can work but not by just keeping the same profile and adding on to the tip end, or at least that was my experience. I would make it a tapered piece if it was very long but I think adding a middle section is probably the best idea. I kinda want a three piece cue for travel anyway, maybe 22-22-22 if I custom designed it from scratch.
