Magic Rack

clear= generation 1
black w/blue film= generation 2

the newest racks are black with no protective film on them. Guerracues (azb username) has the newest ones available (and kamui chalk too)

I have been using the Magic rack for several months now. And, I take it every week to the local weekly tournament. The response has been 90% positive on it. The ones that don't like it are the better players. ;) When asked why they don't want to use it, their response is "you make a ball everytime on the break". I then point out that every ball is frozen, and they like to claim that they give good racks. So, they should have no problem with it. They then state that the 9 usually doesn't move. I then state that it shouldn't if the rack is tight. They then say "well, I just don't like it".

Basically, the better players like to put a rack on the lesser players, and they can't do it with this rack. They just won't admit to it.;) One player in particular, is known for his opponents not being able to make a ball on his racks. When they rack their own, you will see the 9 head for the corner almost every rack.
Consider the flip side of this regarding the weaker players: I have a Delta-13 Elite rack, however, there are a lot of weaker players that I know of who are incapable of racking a tight rack even when using a Delta-13.

I'm thinking that using a Magic Rack might be just the thing I need to help ensure I get a tight rack every time.

I've had a hard time getting others to use the rack also, seems people don't like new things. Tried to use one in a tournament against a good player, he looked at me like I pulled out a turkey from my case and was about to cook it at the table for us. I bet this is how the old guard knights felt when they started facing archers and later guns, no way are we changing, till they all died. I just went to practice with my 11 yr old son, using the Magic Rack he was able to spread the rack open as easily as any fully grown player. Plus he has a ton of fun using it. They should market it for junior players and at national junior events, would be a great start for them and will help them progress in the game.

I just ordered one from Seyberts and I can't wait to try it out, based on the consensus on this thread. What's the best way to store the rack though? A good local player said he used one while he was in Florida a few weeks ago and that once it was bent a little it was hard to get the rack back to it's original shape. How true is this?

I've had my 9, 10, and 15 ball MR's outside on a very hot screened patio in Tampa, FL all last summer and they are still outside today and in good shape. I use 2 of them everyday. Johnnyt

Thanks for the input. I figured the player I mentioned probably didn't use the rack enough and might have been misinformed, hence his statement. How do you store your racks when you take them somewhere?

I have one.

I like that we don't have to worry about the 9 moving but I would never use it in a tournament setting. It totally benefits the stronger players that's for sure. Sometimes the only chances we have at the table against a pro in practice is when he/she gets a dry break.

It'd be good for an alternate break format because the rack is *too perfect* that its not such a good thing anymore.

Its good for individual practice.

I don't roll mine up when I travel, I hooked up a food saver clip to my case, and clipped the bag the rack came to that.

^ funny, that thing has AZ on it :-)

I ordered from Seybert's a couple months ago. Received the gen 2 - black with blue film - two 9/10 ball racks for $10.

I got my 8 and 9/10-ball racks today from Seyberts. It's black and appears to have a clear film on it.

According to the MBR web site:
■ Why does the rack come with a protective film over both sides?
The rack comes with a film to protect the rack in the manufacturing process; this film is to be removed when being used. The easiest way to remove the film is with a small strip of cello tape; just rub the tape on a corner of the rack and lift. This will pull up the protective layer, please remember to do this on both sides.

Is there an easier way to remove the clear film? I tried removing the clear film with clear packing tape and wasn't successful. Is there an easier way to remove the clear film from the rack?

If the film is so easy to remove why don't they remove it before shiping it from the factory? Johnnyt

My experience

One of the things I've always hated about pool is the fussing over the rack. I've played matches before where we literally spent more time racking the balls than actually playing. That is SOOOOO miserable! And since I break better than most of my opponents, it's a huge deal to them I guess.

Since I've started using this WONDERFUL PRODUCT, I've had zero arguments!! NO STALLING between games. Matches go much quicker not only because we're both making balls on the break but also because it's completely effortless to repeat a completely frozen rack.

I will go so far as to say "the magic rack has made me enjoy pool more than I ever have before". It just takes SO MUCH of the bull out of the game. AND I think the feeling is mutual between me and my opponents as well.

Rotation games are just plain better with the magic rack.

Magic Ball Rack is the best thing to come along in a long time.
It works great!!

In the immortal words of Johnny Archer.... "Those balls were touching but they weren't frozen...."

I had a friend of mine kind of laugh at the comment and I said Johnny was exactly right....

The magic rack freezes every ball.... By use of the holes in it the Magic Rack puts tension on on the outside base of the ball which actually loads the balls onto the ones beside it....

If the table surface is smooth and there are no imperfections and the balls are of consistent size you could hand rack a rack of 9ball or 10ball where all the balls were touching and those racks would break differently than racks done on the same table with the same balls with the magic rack..... One of the reasons being the loading element

I will say it is the best option we have at the moment.... I did say at the moment....

to be continued...........

WPA events

Just FYI, the magic rack was the exclusive and mandatory rack for the recent WPA Junior World 9 Ball Championships. All of the players used them to rack for themselves, the matches went smoothly with no rack re-rack re-re-racking and no complaints at all. TD announced simple rules for use and when and how to remove them, and all of the refs were available to remove the rack if necessary. No problems, no controversies, smooth as silk. One less PITA and an equal opportunity for everyone.

Isn't a Magic Rack just a trick shot template? A customer came in a few months ago and pulled out his Magic Rack and made the corner ball every time. What does all this have to do with playing good pool?

Furthermore, does the Magic Rack promote pattern racking?
