Aligning threads in shaft

Hell 1 or 2 10,000 ths makes a wobble.

A tapered collar is useless unless the taper matches your shaft taper and diameter. I encourage all budding cuemakers to make their own collets. It's a pretty basic operation. If you can cut the taper on a shaft or a butt, you have the tools to make perfect collets. Practice on scrap wood if you're not sure of yourself & when you have it right, use your material of choice.

I figured this out very early on, and it's been crucial. I might add that I don't split the collets, either. It's just a piece of phenolic or delrin with a bored, tapered hole that matches the taper of my cues. The work piece press fits into the collet for perfect alignment every time. Same procedure for installing joint pins.

Here's a quick video using .0015" thick waxed paper for the shim. Both before & after with no cutaways. Sorry my fat hands are getting in the way but you'll get the point.

A .001 error at a .843 jointface is .034 inch runout/side at the tip.
Also a strained shaft, held in chuck and the tip is forced to run true, with a .017 runout in the middle of the shaft will cause the same effect.
If the tip is not set true before a steady or support is applied, the runout error will be what it was before the steady or support is applied.

for this situation, I just go ( error/distance) * length so (.001/.843)*29

on tapering and need a specific taper on my set up I use (sin angle)*1200

Arctan is used when using the linear scale on a lathe and the cross slide for the difference per side to either set or figure out a taper angle.
