Pics of the "Fatboy" Rails and Pockets for TAR 21. Yeah they are a wee bit tight.

Can I suggest that TAR do a video interview with Glen about tables? Right or wrong it could provide some interesting information in a visual format for everyone to digest. What would be really cool is to get Greg Sullivan's perspective, Glen's thoughts, Ernesto's and maybe some player's thoughts on the subject of what makes a great playing table.

Like a magic trick, I'll keep that one to myself...LOL

What you wrote above is your main issue of why there is some "backlash".

This thread was created by Justin, who happens to be the one behind putting this match together. He is discussing the pockets being used in THIS match between the 2 players that are playing in THIS match, that also agreed to these pockets for THIS match.

So you can see you discussing events and opinions that have nothing to do with THIS match, may be looked upon as contributing nothing to the actual thread and therefore "hijacking" it, as other people start to discuss what your wrote.

I'm not sure why it's so hard for some people to wrap their heads around the fact that this is a one time match. It's not a tournament. It's not TAR that is saying let's have tight pockets. When 2 players match up for a one on one match for big money, the players & the backers tend to set most of the rules.

TAR's role is to try and get both players to agree to something and to make it attractive to the public. We all know how most players are. Matching up is a 3 hour battle over what table, what pockets, what cueball, what rules, what equipment, who can watch, who can talk, who can take a smoke break, who can pay in chips, who can use what chalk... the list goes on and on.

So I imagine TAR is pretty flexible about what rules the players end up agreeing to, in order for the public to get a chance to see a match. I'm sure TAR will draw the line in some areas, such as if they want to play a race to 500 with no break, or if they feel they should have a 5 min shot clock between shots.

Good luck on all the wannabe promoters out there, that think they will dictate all the rules about the race, the bet, the equipment, the time and the rules, to the players that people want to see match up.

So if you catch a pocketful to sh1t for rambling on about playing snooker and how a player plays in China and comes to Borneo and is all surprised by the fact the table is outside in the goat corral, it has no bearing on this match so people are going to suggest you go elsewhere.

Hopefully you can understand that:rolleyes:

Now, there's still time for you to go run off some flyers for this match and go down to the pub and pass them out to your mates and tell them to get the PPV.. they'll have a bloody good time!

A "tap" ala TAR style:

Having read through this thread (how have I missed this one :-) some random thoughts:

Playing the match on a table like this will be interesting. But, it's going to be tough for your average dog to relate to because it is such a rare piece of equipment. I mean really: who has access to a table like this?!

I think the best thing for most of us to do at this point is to STFU and see how it goes. If the table helps turn the match into a scintillating mano-a-mano, filled with dynamic offensive and dazzling defense, we can all shout out our hosannas to the parties involved with getting the rails after the fact. If, OTOH, it turns into a boring slug-fest, we can burn them all at the stake later at our leisure :-)

For RKC: there is a fine line between educating your peeps and bragging. Form is everything.

For the rest of youze: rock on (some of you have gotten *really good* at the one liner zinger) -- the wife is out of town tonight and it has been very entertaining. TY.

People keep telling me that I've the tightest pockets they've ever seen. Makes no sense to me as I don't even own a table.

Not to digress too much from the main topic, but I do wonder why cushion sets for pool tables wouldn't come with pre-cut pocket openings similar to snooker "bends". These could be made to exacting standards and could eliminate the unending variety of pocket openings encountered. Then there are the slates and shelf cuts...

Thanks for the show so far.

Good point, Eric.....why not ask the man who's hit 14 million balls on them.

How fast are they?....like if you lagged as hard as you could, how many
lengths of the table could you get?

personally, I think 6 lengths is too fast

This is a good idea.

When I watch a sporting event I like to have as much interpreted information as I can get.It helps me understand better who is making a tactical error verses a brilliant shot.

A visual lesson like this would be very engaging.

5 times the length of the table back and forth, and 9 rails around.

Thanx, RKC
I don't mind 5 lengths....and if you can't hit 9 rails there's something wrong.
I played on a steel-block Westbury 6x12 that you could hit 10 rails and lag
7 lengths....it was brutal.
..told the owner to put the table on pause any time I hit the ball hard.:D

Does that table have a rewind feature too ... I need that one!

I am so looking forward to watching the play on this table this weekend. SVB and the Lion should provide an excellent display of professional pocket billiards.

Good luck to both of them and Thanks JCIN, Fatboy and RKC for all their efforts to make this event happen.

Here Here!!!!

I am so jazzed this is going off. If my internet takes a dump on me for any reason, I will go POSTAL!!

If you show up there, I will interview you, maybe even put your ugly mug on camera. ;)

That would be nice, but shortly I have a date with something 5'x10' in size, playing surface of 56"x112" weighs about 1,600lbs, with drop pockets, dymondwood rails, 4 1/2" corner pockets, 5 1/16" side pockets, one piece slate 30mm (1 3/16") thick...and it's been calling my name for some time now, just have to clear up a few more jobs first, then I'm free to have some fun...hehe!

Glen

PS, do you know how frustrating it is to try and watch TAR 21 on my computer...while I'm DRIVING...
