Julius Balke nice table you mean restore it? or just set it up?

Looks like slate design around 1870

Holy inlays batman! Restore restore restore! Gem of a find. I've been working on a late 40's (that would be 1900's, not 1800's ha ha) Brunswick Anniversary table and it's coming along nicely, despite the lack of consistent and plentiful time to spend on it.

Please post pics of its resurrection!

if you dont mind me asking, does it have a nameplate, and if so, what does it say?

antique

The table is currently in Cincinnati. They plan on taking it to the MI, U.P. I'm pretty sure they plan on having it restored. Unfortunately The name plate is not original. It has a National Billiard name plate on it. Around WWII it was common for national to take in a used tables, clean them up and put their name on it.

The Makers mark is inlaid into the side of the cabinet, it could be a John Brunswick table but the slate design makes me think otherwise. What say you Scruffy?

no offense but the practice of prying off nameplates and replacing them with your own was going on long before ww2.

as for the restoration work, i personally dont know anyone qualified to restore that table in the UP area, sorry. (although that certainly doesnt mean that there isnt someone available)

as an alternative, i do know many qualified people in Chicago and elsewhere. for the price of a full restore, some of them would probably be willing to pick up and deliver.

Billiards Restoration in Kansas is the closest to Ohio that I can think of...
would make a helluva great project though!!!

I don't know their reputation for service, but this company worked on refurbishing all the Annivesary tables at University of Michigan's Union Pool Hall.

Facebook shows a series of photos of that refurbishment effort. This effort seemed to have been limited to new bed cloth and some slate work... no actual restorations as the woodwork is all still nicked up to death.

They may be quite qualified to at least set up the new table until it can be restored by an expert, or might have the necessary expertise, or could possibly recommend someone.

Not to change the thread but it is nice to see a college with a billiard room, and maintaining it.
