Jack Lemmon and Peter Falk had many things in common but three of the things that immediately spring to mind are that they are two of the greatest actors who ever lived, they are both naturally funny when it comes to comedy and
they also share a love of playing pool.
In The Great Race, they were the perfect match to play the evil villain-and-henchman respectively and they very much enjoyed that set-up for the movie. Behind the scenes of his many movie sets, Jack loved to play pool and snooker. Be it competing against another BFF in the form of Tony Curtis or teaching Kim Novak a trick or two using the cue, if he wasn't playing the piano, Jack was probably playing pool during breaks in rehearsals and filming. Peter famously had a glass right eye after he nearly lost his life from cancer found there at a very young age. But the glass eye proved not to be a nuisance when it came to Peter's skill of the game. He was very good at pool indeed. And so was Jack. There was often intense matches whenever they could play properly against each other but Peter's winning streak could perhaps be somewhat reflected in Jack's portrayal of Professor Fate whenever he gets angry at Max in The Great Race!
RIP Newman!!
