This was a pretty solid idea that some guys in Calgary had for trying to spur abit more action in the city and making it easier to find a game.
They created a facebook page where people can post that they want to play sets for whatever type of money, what type of game, and where they might want to play at. Every pool player in Calgary is being added to the page and as such can keep their eye on it when they want a game, making a post or taking up someone else on a challenge. The added benefit of this is when a person posts on the Facebook page the members can get an email depending on their email settings and will be keyed in on action.
This is also phenomenal for anyone coming into Calgary on a business trip or a vacation. Instead of posting on AZB "where to play in Calgary? Anyone want a game?" they could join the Calgary Pool Action facebook page and read the posts of all the members who are gambling, where they are doing it, and even make a post and find a game that way. It is way easier then trying to find people from a certain city to play by posting on a pool forum with an international readership.
IMO pages like this for all of the major cities would be awesome. Anyone could be a member of each cities page regardless of where they live, and if they want to read up on the action in that city, see who is playing, or perhaps find a match because they are planning to be in town it would be easy to go to that cities "Pool Action" Facebook and set it up.
This is a small thing, but using the internet like this and getting the game out there like that on Facebook across cities all across North America might actually spur some interest in the game, the Calgary page is about 3 days old and has 76 members already, almost all local. If these things became a huge network of finding and reading about action with members from all over then the things would have huge membership and make the game look very popular and active and that type of image could help get people interested in playing it more.
