Jimmy Fusco.

The Philly Flash!

Living in the Philly burbs and working at the cue corner, I got to sit and talk to Jimmy, and Petey many times. Jimmy is one of the coolest guys to hang with! He never let me feel like a banger newby, tho I was. To give you guys a feel for his speed....Jimmy was setting up banks and 1P layouts on table 1. The guys watching him were Allen Hopkins, Sigel, Jack Calovito, Rempe etc....it was funny to watch those top pros asking Jimmy how he was hitting some of those shots.

Yes Jimmy played awsome 14.1, as good as any....and in this part of the country, that means something. Back pocket, or even last pocket 9ball.....forget about it, keep your $$$ in your pocket. 1 Pocket?......CRAZY good, like everyone else has said. Yea, I heard the Efren stories back in the day when they were all living with Spanish Mike.

Then there was bank pool. I remember watching Jimmy at south philly billiards bank balls like a madman!......like Brumback good....no lie, and I think it was his favorite game from what I gathered watching him practice.

I know I can get some awsome Jimmy stories from my buddy.

G.

I remember jimmy made it to the finals of the sands 9ball against davenport. The first game he had a hanger out, he was nervous and he got out of line on the 8 and got a horrible shot on the 9. He stepped up and banked it straight back like it was a hanger. lol. Unreal. I have been a fan ever since.

The last i seen JIMMY play was in a 10 ball tournament in atlantic city,nj at the trump marina,i dont know for sure that date, but it was around 8 years or so,it just so happen that JIMMY was playing fine and when we left,Jimmy was still in the winners bracket,i think he came in like 24th or maybe 17th,but that was with all the best players in the world and JIMMY was well in his 60s then,JIMMY had alot of fans in his cornner at that tournament.

Hey, I was there at Trumps for that 10-ball event put on by Gene Hooker, et al. Do you remember the rules? They were a version of two-shot/push-out, as I recall.

We were the only car on the road to Atlantic City the day before, and then they closed off the streets going in and out of AC due to an extreme snowstorm. I didn't think we would make it. I can still recall the billboards advertising this 10-Ball Challenge on the way in. I thought that was so cool. They had to delay the tournament a day or two, and because of the weather, they didn't attract too many viewers in the stands. :(

Dee Adkins hit a bundle at the OTB on the horses, and he gave Keith a tip. Dee knows how to pick 'em. We both made a little score, thanks to Dee. :grin-square:

Canadian Dan Hewitt won, with King James Rempe coming in second. It was a first-class event, and there were many, many good players on the roster, all the Filipino stars for sure. Pete Fusco came to see the happenings.

Here's me and mine at the Trumps. I was so tired. I hate casinos, all that walking like a mountain goat. Keith got our room comped by one of the Men in Black suitcoats. Keith usually doesn't pay for rooms when he's in the casino environment. ;)

Picture courtesy of Poolpics by Diana Hoppe. If memory serves me right, this was in Ferbruary or March 2004. :)

I am from philly and let me tell you a little bit about Jimmy Fusco... He is a legend of one pocket one of the best to play the game. He has a bad back bad eyes and has not been playing pool at all for over a year...BUT i talk to jimmy everyday and if there is anyone out there that wants to give him 9-7 as someone posted he needed .. let me tell you all you need to do is come to philly and you can get played. we will play anyone that wants to give up 9-7... as crippled as he is thats how good i feel he plays. JIMMY FUSCO CAN SPOT THE WORLD 3 BALLS IN THE KNOWLEDGE CATAGORY.. but anyway jimmy plays great he is in the one pocket hall of fame.

Sands Regency

I was there the year Jimmy won the Sands Tourny. Jimmy played so good and in the finals it was like he elevated his game to a different level!

I remember watching Jimmy Fusco playing 14.1 exhibitions with Jose Garcia at the Q-Ball in Vineland NJ back in the early nineties. Jimmy usually came out on the wrong side of the match but was always gracious with the crowds that were there. A classy guy

Great, there you 1 pocket players out there,if anyone thinks they can spot jJIMMY FUSCO(in his 70s)9-7 in philly, they are waiting for you!you got to love JIMMY,go get em MR.FUSCO!

In his 70's?! His IPT biography says he was born in 1948 which would make him 63.

Jimmy Fusco is just a really great guy. Lots of pro players are nice to talk with and appreciative of their fans. But Jimmy stand outs to me in this regard. He was also one of the best all-around players for a lot of years. It's nice to see that he's still remembered fondly. I sincerely wish him all the very best!

Here's a link to an older thread about Jimmy that has some other stories in it.
