There is no doubt that the UK pays more real money to bar games. Not to mention the sponsorships Why does the UK embrace the bar-game culture more than any other? Phil "the Power" Taylor is off the charts. He makes the Crafty Cockney look almost elementary. Eric Bristow is an afterthought now. He's made LOT's more money than most pool players.

Snooker pay's out big ...pool.... not so much. My Pinay GF say's I got "snickered". Should've focused on Snooker or Darts. Raymond Van Barneveld is doing okay amongst many others

People stay indoors more because the weather stinks a lot of the time in the UK. Same in the Philippines, not much to do outside during the rainy season so they play pool.

Snooker and Darts were big time free to view TV events in the 1980's on British TV.Until the cigarettes & alcohol companies were told to back off out of sponsorships and the TV tournaments dried up.

The TV companies took out cigarettes and alcohol sponsorship in the early 1990's and dart's and snooker were on a downer until Barry Hearn stepped in and took over.He revamped the game of darts and recently took over the reins at snooker and has reformed the game.

US Pool needs a character like him to reform the US Pro Pool game and get it back into the elite.

I'm not sure that's true, but we do have a large booze culture and so bar games do come naturally. Plus, it's cold, dark, wet, miserable etc, and our women are no oil paintings - beer goggles are definitely required in many cases...
