What is your pool nickname, and how did you come by the nickname?

You are the man, Lou.

(insert flashback music)

The guy running the student union pool hall at USF was named Bob and, for some odd, unknown reason, he frequently adopted an Italian accent, though the closest he got to Italian was an occasional pizza and cheap Chianti.

His usual greeting to me, though I'm not Italian either, was, "Hey! A Luigi, whatza goin' on?" So that's how I got my first nom de pool. Others heard this and actually thought that that was my name: Luigi.

So I'm practicing one day and this tall, thin, good looking Chinese girl (Kathy, who went on to become a really good player on the West coast), asks me to play some 9ball. She was pretty good, but I beat her easily. So about then Bob walks in and does his usual, "Hey! A Luigi, whatza goin' on?" Now apparently Kathy had heard through the student union pool hall grapevine that "Luigi" was the local star. And being the young, innocent, impressionable pool fanatic that she was, her eyes got quite large and she almost whispered to me, "Are you Luigi?"

Well, she might as well have been asking if I was actually Robert Redford. I was in, like Flynn.

Ah, the 70s...

Tell the wife I said hello. Retirement might work good for you. Just do not retire from pool! Thanks for your response.

I've had a few...

Junior -- Because there was another, older John when I first started going to the pool halls.

John the Kid -- Again, an age thing. The youngest league player at the time.

Johnny Cash -- Just something a friend of mine decided to start saying when I walked into the room. "Johnny Motherf***ing Cash!"

Unfortunately my nickname is "Fat Bastard". Reason is I'm one of those people that will not use a public restroom to have a sit down! I will hold it until I get home or back to my hotel room. So a lot of the times during league or a tournament, I bolt out of there as soon as I'm done! So the guys would say "he must have a turtle head popping out"! I know TMI, but hey you asked!

Sorry! Not trying to gross anyone out!

My is art . It was a old street name that stuck . So now when some pepole see me play they say my stroke is pure art . Nice stroke likle a artist....

Mine has always been the same as my screen name. Back when we all posted on RSB it was dial-up only. I got the name from my friends becuse I worked for an airline and was routinely moved all over the world at the drop of a hat. I'd vanish for months on end because we didn't always have internet access so it was hard to keep in touch. It applied to RSB as well for the same reason, I'd be there for a while then disappear when I got moved somewhere else.

Hello Brozif, a nickname is just that, a nickname.
