What is your pool nickname, and how did you come by the nickname?

All the league players at a tavern I used to play APA 9 ball at called me "The Comeback Kid". I was a 7 playing a 3 one night I was down 11 to 23. So the apa 3 needed 2 balls to beat me. I ended up winning the match 55 to 24:thumbup:

Short Bus Russ.

I got the nickname from a very popular AZBilliards poster who is since passed away, Smorgass Bored.

I played him once in Tampa while giving him decent weight, and didn't play well at all, and he ended up winning about $50 or so.

He participated in a thread where I got steamed and started some friendly trash talking, and I was thereby christened "Short Bus Russ", for my "lack of playing skills".

I ended up taking the name for my own, because hey, not everyone ends up earning a nickname, you know? :-) It was great.. They even photoshopped a image of me into a pimped-out short bus pic they found on the internet.

several

Many years ago I was VERY skinny so a bartender at this bootleg joint used to tell people " that Wormy kid over there plays really good " it killed alot of my action but I thought it was funny so "Wormy" stuck during my wild youth .Years later working in a electronics shop my friend Steve the CB man used to call me "Matlock" .After a long lay off from playing pool I decided to play again .Being I am from NC a friend who has now passed on used to joke alot and call me "Mayberry Matt" .....I sure miss Wally B. :( The name that has stuck and came full circle is "Matlock" . I will go with that being it was given to me twice by two good friends .Lock n Load says I am official member of the Lock society and that is my "Lock" name .I'm good with it ;)

Good nickname, Gunz.....

I'm Gunz and it has nothing to do with pool. While I quit pool I never quit powerlifting. I was at work one day and tried to snip a piece of wire with needle nose pliers. In the process of trying to snip the .109 steel wire I snapped the pliers in half and they gave me the name Gunz. Since they I quit lifting and started pool again.

Thanks.

"Road Runner"

It'll take some explaining. Several years ago I moved to a very rural part of eastern Kentucky. I was the only guy there with long hair, and the only person who jogged. One day, shortly after I moved there, and was still a total stranger, I was running past a filling station where lots of locals hungout and killed time, and one of the guys yelled out, "Hey, Road Runner!" It stuck. Sometimes it was shortened to a quick, "Beep Beep".

My poor first wife would call a pool room and ask for, "Bob". The usual answer was, "Bob who?". She'd say, "Callahan". They'd say, "Never heard of him". As soon as she'd say, "Road Runner", they'd get me. She hated it. *grin*

Even though it's been a while, every so often since I've come back to pool I run into someone who knew me from those days, and still calls me that.

Shortly after winning a pool cue off a guy, people started calling me
'the stick'. It didn't last though. I moved and got married with children.

.50 Cal
Montana Mike

Montana Mike is what a lot of people in Michigan call me because I moved to Montana for a while and there are a lot of guys named Mike. 50 cal was something a friend in Montana came up with. We were at a pool tournament and noone really knew me. We were sitting at a table waiting to play in the tournament and some guy came up to my buddy and asked if he knew me since he had to play me next. My buddy said, "oh sh%t that's .50 cal/." and the guy asked why they called me that and my buddy replied "cuz your gunna get blowed the F up!" I thought it was hilarious and the name stuck around my home area of Montana at least.

I have a friend at my local club we call him "Monkey Boy" because when he first started playing as a kid his stroke looked like if a monkey played.

He asked me if I could coach him and I told him it was surgery he needed not a coach with a back arm like that - saying that he is a tour player now in the UK.

We also have a guy we call the "Crack" because his butt hangs out all the time.
