Corey Deuel

Last time I saw Corey play on Mosconi team he was struggling and Johnny Archer had to help him out just to get through their doubles match.
Corey is not going to beat SVB or Archer.
He isn’t in top 10 in the world for sure, still top 30.

I disagree. Every pro player knew exactly what the state of the sport was going in. Just like every person who works in the industry does. No one goes into pool expecting to retire wealthy. At least no one with any sense.

That is not quite what I meant. What I mean is that IF the sport were in a different position with a proper tour and such that the top 10 players in the world all made 200k+, 11-30 made 100k+, and 31-50 made at least 50k then we would be seeing people take up this sport who have mad talent and see players like Corey Deuel play like they actually had the potential to. I don't feel sorry for Corey at all, he made the choice to play pool when he knew it's current state and he then chose not to play. I don't blame him for it, but I dont feel bad for him either.

I feel sorry for the fans of this sport due to the fact that the sport does too little to KEEP players like Corey and Mike Sigel interested in playing pool. I would have loved to see the epic battles that Mike and Efren would have had through the 1990's, but that will never happen. I would have loved to see how dominant Corey could have been if he had been kept motivated by more monetary rewards and a more structured sport with a proper tour, another thing I will never get to see.

I wish the pro's COULD get wealthy from this sport, not because I feel really bad for the pros and wish them the best, many of the pros are in fact quite unworthy of it IMO given their actions. BUT, I wish the money was there for them all the same for MY OWN interests of seeing the truly best natural talents in the world playing their truly best pool for prizes that truly matter to them and draw out their best efforts.

They don't have to get stupid rich, but when the 10th best pool player in the USA has trouble making a living from the sport there are problems.

He isn’t in top 10 in the world for sure, still top 30.

I am not sure he is top 30 at this point TBH. There are alot of players in the Philipines alone who would probably be considered a favorite. The problem with trying to figure out where Corey stands atm is one solid month of practice and commitment changes things alot for a guy with his level of talent. Hell 2 months and he might be back into the top 10 and second in the USA only to SVB.

I really doubt archer or svb would play corey a set of ryo 9 ball

You can't be serious? Corey is NOT going to play SVB

At least you didn't call him Shirley......

I don't think Shane is gonna beat down any doors to play Corey any RYO 9 ball. Playing any other game Shane is probably gonna like his chances but that is Corey's specialty and he does it as well or better than anyone.

You saw how Donny fared playing this game, he just nearly pulled it off. I am not knocking Donny's game but I like Corey's chances better than his and I am probably not alone in that assumption.

Corey can be, if he wants, the best American player. No doubt in my mind. He has incredible natural talent. I think he is more of a natural than SVB.

The issue is, he's not as dedicated as he could be. Perhaps the incentives aren't there? I've met him a couple of times. Watched him play several times. He doesn't seem as passionately dedicated to pool as other players of elite caliber are.

I think James Roberts is correct, but I will add a caveat to it, if Corey wants to. When his interest is sparked and he's got that fire...I don't think anyone on the Mosconi Cup team would want to play him. Corey can hit very high gears.

In fairness to the critics, just because someone might be the best - doesn't mean they deserve a spot on the team. The best, or those with the most potential, doesn't mean they are playing to that level at all times. Also, the criteria for being on the team isn't who is best by opinion or other arbitrary measure. It's who earns it based on points in tournaments.

Because of that, the team never consists of all of the best. Does the Euro team have all the best on theirs?

I'm a big fan of Corey's, but Souqet, Appleton, Mika, SVB, Corteza, Wu (from what I've read- haven't watched him much)- would be a big challenge for Corey in any format

There seems to be some sort of a tie between pool players and golf. I have heard several times in jest that it is the same game, only a bigger playing field. Kim Davenport once earned more in one weekend, playing golf in Hawaii, than he did in a year of playing pool.

Tournament players are making more money playing poker, than a year's worth of pool. As one post stated above, the money is just not in the game of pool.
I couldnt agree more...earlier this month I had the choice between Shooter's one pocket tournament, or the monthly Deep Stack poker tourney in OK...I chose the Poker...it took me 7 hours including drive time, I won 1st and it paid 2200.00...Banks Jr. won the One Pocket...I think it took 2 or 3 days and paid 850.00....unfortunately it is really a no brainer when faced with these choices...

So you guys really think corey is not the favorite playing ryo 9 ball? Are you guys just messing with me?

I think Corey would swim through a river of shit to play RYO 9 ball everyday. No matter who was waiting on the other side.

I also think that line wouldn't be too long.

Ok good! I know when I say something on here, people tell me Im full of it, however when JCIN concurs they say "oh yea Jcin is right"

Any luck on on a D-bag Mills vs Douchaine challenge match? the headline could be " They are both egotistical, self centered jerk off's but the good news is one of them is going to lose"
