stolen names in pool chat

How exactly does the social stream differ from the chat stream?

Or is he doing it in the chat stream as well?

He does both!!!! Here is one he did posing as cleary. I removed the "naughty" part.

I just ignore the idiot now when he throws comments like that at me know. Beat on him like a rented mule in the chat the first few times. That just encourages him to continue. Then again maybe next time I bomb him.

This might be the more appropriate bomb in this case:

He hit the Rail2Rail stream (Malarky's Tacoma, Wa.) over Thanksgiving weekend as: propoolplayer, cleary and one other that I saw. Sorry don't remember.
Good thing was everyone instantly recognized it for what it was.
It (he) also disappeared after only 3 posts, I don't know if it was Rail2Rail, moderators, or boredom.
I did not watch much streaming, don't know if it was the only incident.

Hello My Friends,
I saw this thread and decided to pop in and say hello ! We have been working on finding the IP adresses and information on this imposter. We know who it is . It doesnt really bother me too much if this person hacks my name and uses it to display obscene comments . What bothers me is when I am on another stream just enjoying there work and I see them posing as others who are not present. Ruining the streams is not cool. The question in any investigation is "who benefits"? To help shed some more light I will only state that using a sophisticated tool we have been able to track the IP adresses to the very south Central US. I will not name the state but it is obvious to us here. With the growing popularity of the streams including all the up and comers ,we need to seriously get together and root out this intruder as to avoid losing new fans from pointless obceneties. We know who it is and when the time is right we will post the exact location of the hacker for all to see in this thread.
Since 2002 when we designed and pulled off the first live stream ,we have all watched the streaming industry grow and now in its soon to be 10th year of life this entity called the pool stream has been constantly evolving and branching out across the globe and the stars. Some amazing talent there with our group of dedicated streamers. I am honored to be with you all during the growth stage. Including that I want to commend our fearless group of chatters and mods including Corner Market Bob and Upstate Al who helps all streams grow. I would hope that we can root out this person and make sure they decide twice whos stream to hack. There are dark forces out there in the pool world whos focus is to not make there work better but to simply have multiple accounts to worship themselves in forums and try to hurt other peoples streams. This is so uncool. I have only posted a few other times on az over the years, and have a tremendous respect for AZB forums and I wanted to say thank you to all of you who help our sport grow . Best wishes to all the streamers and chatters out there. I watch all the streams.
Your friend,
Alvin

I was away from the stream because of the holiday, received a help request/notification of issues, and immediately went on line and banned his behind.

This problem is well known on the IRC networks. Spam and usurpation are some of the main problems , and one of the tasks of IRCops is to solve such issues.

in such cases, you should contact an ustream IRCop , explain him what's happend , give him the last, more recent nickame (or better, the IP) of the user and this ass*** will won an /akill (=permanent ban on the IRC network)

some solutions to find an ircop :

- "&" before the nickname are channel admins. they shloud have the power/right to ban the user from the channel, and to contact an IRCop.

-usually on IRC networks , there is a #help channel for this , in this case the command to join this channel is /join #help (just in case : to find the list of the channels on the network , command is /list )

- when no help channel, you can send a message to all the IRCops of the network by using the command /wallops "your message without quotes" ... ( try to avoid this solution when possible)

On many IRC networks, nickserv are in place to protect the usernames of such usurpation.... Did you try to register & protect your nickname ?? ( the command to see how to use the nickserv is " /msg NickServ HELP"

I'm sure it's sc5 too, because he's the only guy that hates me that I'm aware of... the feeling is mutual though

If he doesn't chill pretty quickly, I might have to brush off my hacking skills and out the dude. Back in the day, I used to be a member of a very elite and well respected group that was widely known in the underbelly of the Net. Granted we were pirates, but that's beside the point:) Given what we did, we had many run ins with idiots that spewed a bunch of crap and thought they were anonymous, but since we were some of the original educators of teaching people how to be anonymous, we also had the skills to out people too. There were many a person that one day had thousands of haters foaming at the mouth to lynch someone for what they said and did, and the next day the offenders info was posted for all to do as the wish. Those people disappeared mighty quickly.:)

We actually had one of the biggest tech mags in Europe fly to to the US. to interview myself and 2 other of the main members to do a cover page and article. That was Wired Magazine. The article is here

Here is a brief snippet of the original IRC text of when we met him and had a chat just in case he doubts what I'm saying. I can also dig up a pic too, that was used in the article.. a poloroid of a photo that didn't make it but one very much like it did. Maybe I can scan the original article, as I still have the mag.

<Abraxas> Ho..
<Wired> apologies all
<IR> Ax has his t1 saturated
<IR> shhhh.
<IR> hey!
<Abraxas> No problem... We do that all the time...hehe
<Wired> heheh
<Wired> ok, where were we...? Crime
*** CTCP PING reply from Wired: 1 second
<MadHatter> what did you miss? hehe
<IR> Crime? What crime
<Abraxas> hehe
<IR> You were telling us how "they" were trying to find us
<TAG> he missed me talking about how much people are willing to pay for a good
warez feed<g>
<MadHatter> crime being the question you were asking about investigators and
spa type stuff
<Clickety> No crime here.. move along now...
<CaliRed> since youve talked to both sides what is their view of us
<Wired> frightened
<Wired> they are scared
<Abraxas> humm..
<IR> Hmmmm. That's odd, were such nice types
<TAG> because there's so many people doing it?
<MadHatter> andthey should be the warez groud is the majority of usenet anymore
<Clickety> Of it getting away from them more?
<Wired> they won't say they're scared...but they know they're loosing control
<Clickety> Scared, or mad? (Or both?)
<MadHatter> but MS found a cure with that "Win95 compatible" and "plug n play "
garbage
<CaliRed> most of the jpeople that download this warez, will nevery buy it
anyway, they just dont have the money. So theyre not losing money from that
>>> Clickety agrees with Cali

So I suggest he cease this crap immedietely or he might have some ticked off people that might want to have a "chat" with him to have him explain why all the homo comments and why he's impersonating them. Remember, everyone has a friend somewhere and they have friends.. so while maybe he lives in some podunk town... someone doesn't have to waste a airline ticket going there to have a "chat", they might have a friend just down the road that might be game to have that "chat" with him.

If he thinks he's anonymous, he really needs to understand that he's not. I'll leave it at that right now.

In the meantime, I"m sure he thrives off the attention so you can bet he reads this thread and you can bet he gets his jollies everytime he gets his fix in the chats. I suggest he find some other way to get his jollies though, and quick.

Meanwhile.. hopefully our pool family can always jump in and set the rest of the chat right, on that it's just some punk getting his rocks off and that the people he's impersonating would not say the crap he does.

For the record I hardly ever get in a chatroom, unless it's Fast Lenny's, TAR's or maybe some big tournament. So if you see insulting juvenile craps being spewed by some idiot posing as my nym, it's not me.

Id put money that it isnt sc5. I hate sc5 prolly more than anyone, but this is pocketbilliards. Sc5 is very predictable with his words and emotions. This isnt him.

Both there IPs are from Texas, Texas is very big. There is one way to find out though, compare his IP from the chat to the ones of SC5 on AZ.

Oh yeah....you mean that pocketpoint clown? The manifesto guy that kept making up names everytime he got booted? The nutjob that had some mission to destroy leagues or 8ball or something? If so, I forgot about him already :D

Yeah he doesn't like me either. The sc5*** is the only one that would spew all the obscenities by pm'ing me in chats though.

I am trying to figure out what it is about me that puts me at the top of these mental patients list though. I mean I see 20 or 30 people that flame these guys and the go back and forth for months....but yet I might make one comment every few months. Does my one post for every 200 he gets from all these other people somehow set him off instead? Do I just have a abrasive personality? (OK to skip this one :D) or ....OR does it mean that I am "important" enough to get all wound up about? :D. I"ll just think its that one. :D

Sent from my phone. Lucky you, you get the abbreviated version. :D

I was playing around with IRC the other day trying to figure out how this was happening.

On IRC you can change your nickname to any nickname that isn't currently registered. So I could change my nickname to pooIpIayer or anything else as long as it isn't registered. You have to login with a registered nickname first then you can change it at will in IRC. I didn't notice that the L's were changed to I's. Thanks to Bob for noticing that.

Also you can register new usernames easily on ustream.

If your IP there are ways to get a new ip address rather quickly.

Also there are proxy servers out there that allow you to get a different IP address and hide your location and IP address.

So I don't really see any way that you could permanently block a person unless you can somehow find out their real IP address and report them to their ISP.

Nope.. don't even have clue who pocketbilliards is then. Which would then beg the question of why I would be a target. I rarely mod anywhere except for TAR. Like I say I'm rarely even in chatrooms. I rarely post anymore, rarely watch any streamed tourney's or rarely participate in chats. I'm too busy behind the scenes trying to contribute to pool in many different projects that I just don't have time anymore.

Nothing wrong with liking lunatics...unfortunately though since their actions are desperate cries for attention, even 1 positive comment can seem like 50 of them when everybody else hates them.:D

When you decide your going to act like a ass, rant and rave about about your own secret gay desires by pretending to talk about others, and disrupt the hard work that everyday people do to bring pool to us fans then your not going to be popular. This then leads to the greatly inflated significance of even a slightly positive remark by anybody. Humans are a interesting bunch :D

I had installed IP tracking software on my chat a long time ago when I had 3 people spamming my chat room with hateful pm's and invites to other shows.

Just 2 weekends ago I caught someone logging into my chat as me with the "i" changed to "l". I banned them immediately.

(8:06.pm) ustreamer-778980 (ustreamer-@dev-DBAAD30E.nycap.res.rr.com) Has Changed His/Her Nick To BlGTRUCK

When I have time I will have to scan through my logs to see who it is, but I can tell you just from the IP i can see it from Upstate NY. I prolly don't need three guesses.

Whoever it is appears to be doing it through Ustream by setting up accounts there with the letter change. Pretty low tech. Also someone with lots of free time on their hands like they are retired or a kid.

Ray

I believe "pocket point" is from upstate NY. One of the mods here mentioned the town he was from in some thread, it was near Buffalo.
