hr a week to keep edge?

I believe everyone is different when it come to how much playing time/ practice one needs to stay in good stroke. Johnnyt

I play 3 or 4 times a week 3 hours a day normally. If I am preparing for an event, I'll practice everyday for 3 hours or more if I have the time.

For me, 3 hours per week maintains, 6 hours a week shows slow improvement (2 x 3 hour sessions). I need at least 9 per week (preferably more, with at least one 6 hour session) to get in "tournament shape", or I fade after the third match. That's been pretty much true for me for 20 years...although 20 years ago I was single and played 5-6 hours a day 7 days a week. :embarrassed2:

I was thinking the same thing. But after a couple month lay off I think I need about 15-20hr for a week or two to shake the rust off again. and follow up on just 3 hours a week to maintain

I'd say I need around 5 hours a week to prevent falling off, 10 a week to make progress.

I'm an old fart so the reflexed aren't what they once were, and the eye sight is by far not very good so I have to wear glasses which sucks. I really need to hit balls at least every other day to maintain some semblance of consistency. Since I work, this is not possible so I try to hit balls when work allows. If I had my choice, I would hit balls for a couple of hours per day to stay up to snuff.

Keeping the edge

I play about 2 tournaments a week. One tournament last 6 or 7 hours if you get to the final match, and the other about 4 or 5 hours getting to the final match. I have played 50 years, and pretty much have things under control.

If I am going to play in a big tournament (64 or 128 player event), I might practice some before a tough match. I know how to make balls, and usually don't have to make many shots before being in stroke. I judge my game pretty much on how I am banking. I usually shoot all kinds of banks when practicing, and when my banks are 'on', it makes me feel like my game is 'tuned up'.

I wonder if there is any correlation and differences between skill levels and practice?

For myself, I'm a D level player in a local 9-ball league and was last ranked as an APA 3 in 8-ball. If I put in 6 hours a week, I can meet or beat the league handicap. If I put in just match time and equal amount of practice, I usually end up losing on the hill or a margin of 2 games.
