What do you think of this absurd comment

I agree with Earl. Make one bad shot in pool it could cost you the match and the tournament. Make one bad shot in golf and you get a chance to hit the ball again and shoot your way out of trouble.

The big difference is in pool you have an opponent.

huh????????????

I'm not too sure that Pool is easier than Golf. Having been the Assistant Pro (Golf Professional) for several years at Colonial Country Club in Ft Worth TX & played golf for 30 plus years versus playing Pool & Snooker since 1958, I can tell you they both have their ways with people.

In Golf the first shot can be a total disaster, but after 17 more challenging pars, that errant shot can be made up & the player can still post a decent round from themselves. The keyword is themselves, variant of the word self.

In Pool, the errant first shot can cost much more than just having to catch up a little. The entire match may be in jeopardy. An example would be this... Player A has a dry break, Player B runs out & proceeds to run 4 more racks in a race to 7. We've all seen it in the Bar Box Tournaments.

There's a gazillion similarities & a gazillion more differences between the two. On the Drive in Golf, the Shot to the Green & the Sand Shot can all have "close enough" as an added descriptor. "Close Enough" doesn't work in Pool, except for the obvious sell out shot, at the end of the game.

They are both great games, spent a gazillion hours doing both & have enjoyed some success in each endeavor. I'll say this about both games, upon starting either endeavor, taking lessons at the beginning, might produce a better competitor in the future.

Good Luck to all...

My response would be, if pool is so much harder than golf then why not devote your time to golf, ya know, where you can make some REAL money? If Earl is one of the best pool players ever then he should be able to compete with the top golfers in the world in short order.
I could eat a bowl of alphabet soup and shit out a more intellegent statement than this one.

I've played golf at a high level, and obviously I play pool as well. I don't think one is harder than the other. In a lot of ways golf is more difficult, but pool is more difficult in other ways. Apples and oranges here folks.

yep, totally agree.
:p

I would like to see earl hit a 320 yard drive ....i'd give him say 100 chances and see what he can come up with.

You can see it. I'll guarantee it won't take 100 chances.

He was the club champ at our country club (Sedgefield Country Club Greensboro N.C.) A Donald Ross course (think Pinehurst) with the typical severe dome shaped greens, where balls roll off in almost all directions.

He was a 2 handicapper when he was playing a bit.

Don't think he can't play.

And another thing I thought quite funny was his comment about shooting in the 60's a number of times on the golf course.........C'mon Earl, add another 1,500 yards onto your local dirt track golf course. These courses these guys play on these days are 7,000 + yard golf courses where you have to hit your tees shot 260 yards just to make it to the 60 foot wide fairway, and then you have a 240 second shot ON A PAR 4.
BIG DIFFERENCE.

Have you ever seen Earl shoot golf? If not you should STFU.

Psssst....

Sedgefield Country Club (where Earl won his club championship) is a stop on the P.G.A. Tour. P....means PROFESSIONAL. (just thought I'd let you know)

Same course he's been in the 60's numerous times.

Try talking about something you know a little something about.

I think Earl started golf too late to do that. In the video he admits he couldn't make it and says "you can't be great at 2 sports"- maybe it just takes too much time. Perhaps if he had committed to playing golf at age 12, he would have been a world champion golfer. Would have been a better career choice!

Is Earl a better golfer than Corey Deuel?

Rico

Earl is not a good example he would be kicked out of golf. Pool would have money and a future if it were not for the lack of integrity in the game. ps in golf no one can hook you.

Yeah. Tiger is loaded with integrity .......NOT
his mouth might not be as loose, but he is not a very good role model either.

I'd be willingly to bet that most par 5s have NEVER had an ace shot on them (hole in one), and same goes for probably a majority of par 4s.....so, a score of 18 on most courses is unattainable. I like to think of my PERFECT round of golf as either tying or beating my best score on every hole of the course I play most....There is not a single hole on that course that I haven't birdied, and there are a few I've eagled (including an ace on a par 3), and I have double eagled one par 5. So, tying the double eagle (-3), having say, 5 eagles (-10), and having a birdie on the rest of the holes (-12) equals a score of 47 (-25) on a par 72. Saying that shooting par on a course is a perfect round of golf is WAY off. I'm a HACK compared to pro golfers (I haven't even broken 70 as many times as Earl has), and there's not a single one of them that can even come close to MY perfect round of golf (much less what theirs would be!!!).

That said, there are pros in pool who have run out entire sets or ran XXX and out to end a match; giving their opponent ZERO chance to even play....How much more PERFECT does the game get than that?

hooking you is exactly what many course designers are trying to do on numerous holes...not to mention trees, boulders, etc. etc. etc. I've been hooked too many times to count in golf :p Getting sharked by the wind, rain, hail, thunder in the distance, cars that LOVE to honk while driving by a course, all sorts of wildlife, other things mother nature comes up with, and of course some opponents etc. are also par for the course (pardon the pun).
