2012 MO State 9 Ball Amateur Tourney

I think that the facts are just being thrown out, players do NOT want a trophy, they want CASH.

Just put up a plaque and put the winners name on it each year.

This tournament drags in lots of players, like watches says, they all are NOT Missouri residents. All you have to do is secure a Missouri ID and you are in? perhaps not even that.

I know a bunch of players that make the trip, year after year.:grin-square:

Name them. Other than lutman once years ago and a guy like greg ridenour not so long ago not sure. You seem to have all the answers even though i've never seen you there?

Ridenour probably qualified as a resident at that time. Greg lived in the area for quite awhile.

I may change my mind at any second, but as of now I'm still not planning to play this year. Going to a little tournament at St. Robert this weekend to contribute to someone's income. ;)

Not sure about out of state players playing in the tournament - I have no firsthand knowledge of it, but it wouldn't surprise me if it has happened before. I have seen the state residency rule strictly enforced before, though. Jon Wilson was not allowed to play several years ago despite the fact (according to him) that he had moved back to Missouri. Apparently he had some documents that showed his new MO address, but since he had not yet had his driver's license updated with his new address (still said IL, I think), Phil wouldn't let him play. He took it well, but I was pretty disappointed. We had practiced for 2-3 hours the night before, and I don't think he missed two balls the whole session.

Also, as a humorous side note, my trophy from last year says 2010 on it. :)

Aaron, you just made me look - of course mine says 2010 as well. I wonder if the 2010 player trophies were dated 2009?

I wondered about the other trophies. Not sure about 2010, but I have an older trophy (2002 perhaps) that does have the correct year on it. Maybe there was a discount on trophies in 2010 and he decided to stock up, LOL.

Edit: Actually I think Troy has a trophy from 2010. Maybe he will chime in and let us know. If his and Brandon's say both say 2010 on them that would be something. They may have to thumb wrestle for the bragging rights.

Um, this is probably a dumb question, but I haven't seen this marked on a flyer before. It says "Single foul, 40sec shot clock" ... does that mean anything different than the usual "time ran out, it's a foul"? Guessing no 3-foul rule?

Also, "race to 6, winner's choice" ... choice to break or choose who racks?

I've never been down there, always want to go and never seem to have the means - this year I have the means, so there's more hope. :)

It almost looks like he's saying that it's single-foul instead of two-foul 9-ball. Not sure why that would have to be explicitly stated after about 1985.

Winners choice is who breaks. Racking can be either way depending on what the players decide before the match. Some like RYO, some don't.

Aaron, single foul vs two foul ... are you thinking push out? Or am I really that uninformed that I'm not aware of two-foul 9-ball? Like the 3-foul = loss of game type of thing?

(sorry, I haven't had even half a cup of coffee yet this morning - this might all make more sense in a few hours)

Yeah, the old rules were called two-foul or pushout rules, same thing. Perhaps the tournament used to be two-foul 9-ball, and was changed when Texas express became the predominant game.

Regarding the 3-foul rule, I am thinking it is also in effect in this tournament.

You are lost. But like I said - give me $500 for every player and each time they played and I will name them. And we can go to a third party as proof. Just have a stack of $100s when you agree. I won't even count the once you state for lutman and once you state for ridenour.

Watchez, first of all the "name them was for mark. Ihave no doubt there have been players that have gotten in that werent MO residents. All im saying is anytime Columbia or Springfield come up,you go negative. If you have an axe to grind with Phil thats your business.

Oh

I have been to the State Tournament when it was held in Columbia, with Ed Libby. As for the names of the out of state players, Watchez research is much more intense than mine. I would not travel to Springfield for an event, besides I hardly ever get a whole weekend off, when I do I usually have a mark and debbie tournament.

first week of April

Mark, how about Greenfield? Would you come to Greenfield? :D :D

I will be off work at GM for a week ? I think the first week in April.
It is only a 3 hour drive from KC, so is there a pool hall in Greenfield? And would you give up the 6 ball on a big table?:sorry:
