Gold crown speculation

Runnintable

I have spoken to someone who is selling a Gold Crown table. The person does not have a lot of info, but said it is from 1963 and "it looks like the ones from the poolhalls."

The table was moved into a storage facility and now is being sold. Owner says was purchased from someones home.

I plan on checking this table out.

What are some things I should be looking for and/or concerns?

Also, if the table is a 1963 would that make it a GC I or II.

GC1, but there's to may things to point out for you to look for. I worked on a GC in LA that had GC1 pocket castings, GC1 slates, GC4 slate frame, and GC3 rails...so keep that in mind when buying a used GC1,2 or 3.

Gc

Thanks Glen,

I am going to check it out this morning.
Going to take pics.
Look for overall condition of slate and framing.

Table

Just looked at table
Sorry do not know how to post pics from iPhone

Anyway slate, aprons, pedestals all looked good
Rails good except for scratch on one venier

But rails stamped 4x8
I guess that means its not a 4.5x9 like the owner said?

Overall looked good for a gc1

That is not a GC1 Pro8, it's a GC2 instead. If it were a 1 it would have had the figure 8 nut plates, not the floating nuts inserted into the rails like you pictured;)

What is the playing surface of a Pro-8?

Having trouble uploading anymore pics I took.

The pedestals were that light white color with the aprons being I guess peach.

I am shocked you did not mention the meticulous stapling of that cloth.
Shadows ?

Are you maturing Glen ? :p

I think if I looked at used GC table, I'd bring a 4 ft. straight edge and check the slates maybe. lol
Who knows how they were treated?

If I'm not working on it, then it don't really matter, but if I am, then I'm more concerned about all the parts matching up, such as pocket castings, slates, frame, pocket liners...and so on.

I'm refering to your question about which GC it is. The sticker on stretcher if its still there will tell you. It could be a 1 with rail
s that carried over into the 2's

Sorry to highjack this thread...

Here are a few pics of the table that she sent me.

what would be a good price for this GC1. Good condition, 1 owner, died...step daughter is selling.

Opinions wanted.
