USBTC Professional or not?

Justin, as always, you are the man!

If pool is to be "saved" from itself, it will be bacuse of people like you and Mark.

Thanks for all that you do. It really is appreciated, probably more than you realize.

(and thanks for still participating here on AZB. You never fail to give usvthevreal world perspective, and usually with laugh-out-loud humor. Stay cool.)

stevie was upset because he and shane were on a live ppv stream and he had to pay table fee's...would you buy a ppv knowing you would be watching some guys you never herd of and maybe plays a little better than you? You buy the ppv hoping to see guys like stevie and shane match up. Now if the ppv fee's go back into the tourney, should all players be treated equal...is that fair?

And Stevie resorts to calling Shane "dumb". Is that fair?

im sure stevie regrets that and it was just a heat of the moment comment and hopefully he and shane will straighten things out.

i guess he walked up to the table and maybe he was in a stressed out mood already? and when he found out he had to pay he got pissed and exploded, he could feel embarrassed about it now, i dont know? but did the op call stevie and talk to him about it before he decided to make this thread and he wasn't even involved in the original dispute with justin and stevie.

There is no way Justin would start a thread like this!

Should all players be treated equal?

Thanks for providing some clarity JCIN. I don't think anyone for half a brain thinks TAR is bad for pool, imo TAR is one of the very FEW bright spots out there.

Should all players be treated equal?

sometimes yes and sometimes no! here is the entry fee to a tour around my area.

Skill Level Entry Fee
10-11′s —– $90
8-9′s ——- $70
6-7′s ——- $50
4-5′s ——- $30

John mora plays in this and he is rated a 12 and usually wins when he up here.

Maybe all the people who disagree with how this event was run should try it themselves. Invest $150000 to $250000 for tables, lights, balls, cloth, trucks, moving equipment, desk, computers. Then another $20000 to $40000 for camera's, more lights, audio/visual equipment and needed equipment for streaming.

Then throw in the the added prize money only to have some people b**ch about $10 and dropping tokens because they should've been treated better for being a top player. Priceless

Again does anyone wonder why pool will not make it on tv and is dying a slow death.

Its sounds to me like Stevie helped add some extra prize money or what ever they used the ppv money for... thats was his point

Stevie may have handled it wrong but he had a very valid point, paying by the game is just an insult. It's something I'd expect in a local barbox banger tournament. Make a green fee and open em up. By the way very professional of you to bash Stevie on the internet.

That "insult" has been around every single year at that tournament. It's not new, the players all know about it. If someone is insulted by it, they need to find another tournament. They still show up for a reason: it's a GREAT TOURNAMENT!

By your way of thinking all American Idol guests should be paid because theyre making a profit off of the contestants. Or perhaps people such as Kelly Clarkson were happy just to have a televised event to showcase their talent in hopes of sponsors/ record deal?

In response to your local tournament that has a sliding green fee: you know what's alot easier than assigning handicaps to hundreds of people in an open national tournament?? Dropping quarters! You go deep.. You pay more. You go 2 and out... You pay less. Crazy huh??

you make no valid points in my eyes, sorry... i have answered your questions making valid points, your stretching it now trying to make points

What is "not valid" about his points? I think they are not only valid, but spelled out very clearly.

Didn't this crap happen in the 80's? I'm too young too remember but I know I've read on here about how espn was starting to cover pool and it could have been the start of something but then some of the players got "smart" and decided to demand royalties. Hmmm

Ok what about all the other people at the event that were pissed about having to pay that didn't explode on the people putting the event on (and money in) or their fellow competitors? I can't stand how people are willing to give some the benefit of the doubt over others just because of their pristine view of them that can never seem to be tarnished. I know for a fact that if earl strickland was pulling this same crap he would be getting way more crap over it on the forums than stevie is.

Yes you can all deflect the problem and start talking about plugging quarters vs. green fees but that's neither here nor there. The real problem is a so called professional throwing a tantrum and threatening to hold his breath over an insignificant situation, and then being defended for doing so!

How much did Stevie add?

I didn't watch or pay for the 10 ball finals but paid for the rest of the tournament. I wasn't home for the 10 ball but would've paid regardless of who was playing. That being said how many extra people tuned in for Stevie? 10, 20?? His presence might have added a couple hundred at best. Someone has the stream numbers from the 10 ball compared to the 9 ball and 8 ball finals. If they doubled I wouldn't be surprised but when you take Shane out of it the numbers would be far less. Closer to the 8 and 9 ball finals just slightly higher.

This isn't about Stevie though. It's about trying to keep it economically viable. What are the solutions? If you add a green fee it will probably need to be $30. The higher the fee the less participants (dead money). You will lose some of those players who have no chance. You will have to replace that money or drop the payouts. Dropping tokens though helps keep the the entry fee down.

It would be great to have the tables open all the time. Even if for the semi's and the finals. But someone will have to explain to the huge group of players that have no chance that they aren't good enough to reap those benefits. But make sure you come back because we need your money for the tournament.

Tap, tap, tap.

did you get the ppv hoping to watch the big name pro's play or did you get it to watch some guys you never herd of? lets say his presents at the tourney helped make 5 players an extra $20 bucks each...how cool is that...think about this.

earl! i watch a steve miserk tourney from the 80's the other day and the commentators were talking how earl snapped a cue on purpose out of frustration early on in the tourney,. so earl has acted like an ass for 30 years , thats why he gets it from people!

im also not trying to make this personal with you guys either, but just giving my opinion.

Try to look at it this way. If the players are treated differently, like Stevie not having to pay to play while others do, then the lesser players might not play. If the lesser players don't play, Stevie makes no money.
