Just like the title states, is the commonly used stuff to seal up wood simply transparent, white, or yellow Elmer's type glue?

some good sealer

I use rapid pad from mohawk..........Nice stuf and dries fast......Ray Weeks

Water based Poly Urethane is white, yes.

I have seen one sealer in particular that was white and stated that it was low viscosity.

I took it to mean that it was watered down a percentage.

I was going to try and water some Poly to see if my stupid theory was partially correct.

Never got around to it as I am kind of hooked on Chris's sealer.

I wax over top of that and it lasts forever.

That stuff smells so good I use it for aftershave!

I have used Minwax Wood Sealer and it seemed to do a good job. I used it on shafts and sanded afterwards so I don't know what it does with regard to staining afterwards.

sealer

Shellac, padding lacquer, or poly wood sealer all work. You have to
decide which you like best. Try theim all. Here's my opinion on them.
Shellac is easy to use, but doesn't hold up if the user isn't neat with the
shaft and keep them waxed. Alcohol and hand oils tend to soften it.
Padding lacuqer is harder and more resistant, but takes a lot of
coats to really seal up the wood. Poly sanding sealer to me is the best since it fills nicely and seems more resistant to chemicals and heat.
All my observations and opinions. I've used them all, including the old "mule piss"golden rapid pad.(no longer offered), bowling alley wax,
butcher's wax, shaft cote, sailkote.

I've been using "Duck Butter" for a few weeks but its hard finding a steady suppliy.

I was considering that as well for a try out but I was thinking the Ultra Blonde. Hmmm, maybe just anything Blonde would be good.

I use prop wash after rubbing it with flight line. Both are very difficult to get ahold of.

When I was younger....and meaner...we used to send out green deckhands to grab prop wash and red running light fluid. We even rigged up a box one time covered in aluminum foil and had a deckhand walk up and down the dock with a walkie talkie so we could "fine tune the radar"...that was a good one...:D
