I bought a piece of Kamui chalk and feel that it is the best chalk I have used. When I got it I scuffed my tip up good and then chalked it real good and started shooting with it. I played over 20 games of 8 ball before miscuing on a shot that I was using extreme english on. Still not sure if I would buy it again though. For all those that say Mosconi didn't use this or that and won everything, I say, we won the revolutionary war without machine guns, but I don't think I would go into battle today with a musket.

The bottom line is, it's all a matter of opinion. If it works for you great it if doesn't, move on. I have a cube and think its pretty good. Worthy of the 30 bucks for there newer version? Not at all. Do I use it all the time nope! Matter of fact some times out of habit I just grab the master and chalk up after every shot. I know one thing they must be making a KILLING! I talked to my buddy at the booth and just watched as the people walked up and bought the chalk just on what Kamui claimed it does.

I think a lot of people spend 30 dollars on a cube of this stuff and are so conscious of not miscuing that they don't. It's my opinion that miscue-ing is dogging it. You're more than likely not being conscious of how far you're going outside of the center and ended up miscuing.
My experience with the chalk was not a positive one. I too didn't like the way it applied to my tip. It felt more like baby powder than any creamy texture I'd heard about. I knew instantly I wasn't a fan and ended up giving mine away.
The truth is that there's no chalk that will prevent a miscue. Usually a miscue is an error in stroke / mechanics and less related to a failed tip or lack of chalk. As most people have stated they normally chalk before every shot and therefore are less likely to miscue. In fact most of the pro's I've seen who use the chalk do the same (as they're sponsored).
If you enjoy it and find value in it, then great. But don't point to it as the sole reason why you're not miscuing as that's just short sighted and a way to buy in to the gimmick / reaffirm you made a solid purchase.
With that being said, I hope none of you, kamui users or not, miscue ever again!

I've just started using the second version of Kamui chalk and it does appear to not leave as much residue on the cue ball as the previous version.
The Kamui chalk does seem to last longer on the cue tip but I most likely won't be using it except during tournament matches.
I'm kind of in a dilemma of sorts. I am used to chalking after every shot but with the Kamui chalk, I can't justify or just won't chalk after every shot, then after a little while, I start thinking about not having chalked and I DON'T LIKE thinking about not chalking. Chalking had become a natural part of my pre-shot routine and I find it disconcerting thinking about not having chalked. I guess I can start chalking after every shot but a part of me, cringes when I think about chalking after every shot with a cube of chalk that costs over $20.

Maybe even 6. That is going to cost you $4 to $6 an month. Thats not really that bad if you want to use cost to justify the price. The price of one beer per month of chalking.
So, stop worrying over how many shots you can make with one chalking and start chalking after every shot and enjoy it while it lasts.
You should be concentrating on the table and not on your chalk anyway.

I like the Kamui chalk and will try using it on every shot. BTW, are you using the latest version of Kamui chalk or the original version?

He threw me off a whole cube ,no charge,this go around:grin:..
Now I dont believe it to be worth the $30 price tag,, I have a kamui black hard on a favored playing shaft ,and mid way through the rack you will have to chalk again, however on medium, and soft tips (KAMUI BLACK) I have, the chalk goes further ,like around 4-5 racks.
It goes on the tip unlike any other chalk on the market,
but depending on the hardness ,and scuff of the tip, you'll get varied results of how many racks,if even a full 9 rack ,that the chalk will last..
I had the pleasure of making John Bertone acquaintance , he was launching the 1.21 Kamui chalk @ SBX-2012..
He revealed to me ,that 1.21 was a tad more gritty than its predecessor the 0.98, and that the 1.21 only lasted a few shots, as opposed to the 0.98 which can last for (in my experience) upwards to 5 ,9ball racks..
However, the difference in longevity between the 0.98,and the 1.21, didn't sway the price from still being $30 a cube.. I love the majority of kamui products ,and the 0.98 is no exception, but $30 is steep to say the least.. Its good ,but only around $15 good...

I have a lot of cheap masters chalk I bought off eBay , so I really didn't need the Kamui Chalk. I also chalk every shot like most do. I bought a cube of the 0.98 version Kamui chalk simply because I could afford it and just wanted to see what the hype is all about. I can't say I notice any improvement to my game, but the first night I had to see how long it would last before rechalking. I played 5 racks of 8-Ball against my friend with only 1 break and run in that set before I miscued. Total of 3 hours I only chalked 6 or 7 times. Over all I love the feel of how it goes on the tip. The only thing I don't care for is the chalk marks it leaves on the cueball. I plan on chalking every shot as normal since $25-$30 for chalk every year or so is cheap enough for me. I don't think I need Kamui Chalk though as I have forgotten it at home and had to play with masters chalk and noticed no change in my game other than the more dry chalky feel when I'm chalking. That and the chalk dust. Someone mentioned the new version of Kamui Chalk doesn't leave as much chalk marks on the cueball so I think I may try that one as well.

You bring up a good point.
Kamui chalk may have their most important target audience with those who do not chalk up after every shot. I am starting to believe that this is the group who MOST NEEDS Kamui chalk.
Based upon what I am reading from other posters, the .98 original version may be better for that particular group of people.
I'm sure I have missed chalking between shots prior to Kamui chalk but I have attempted to make chalking every shot part of my pre-shot routine.
I will use this newer chalk and try chalking on every shot.
The thing is, I really don't know how long a regular piece of chalk lasts me, because I am always using Buffalo Billiards's Master chalk to practice with. So I obviously don't know how long either piece of Kamui chalk will last. More than likely, I will leave it on the table and forget it. I did that the Louisiana 9 Ball Championship at CueSports and a player from Texas returned it to me.
What's so good about advertising a car's top speed when the speed limits are so slow that virtually any car of acceptable condition will reach them.

That's kind of where I am at. Kamui's good chalk but I won't be using it unless I use it on every shot.
I don't think anyone in a meaningful match will skip chalking because of the brand they're using. I think this is the big mistake people make about Kamuii. There's just no way in hell you're going to draw a ball 7 feet and think, "Oh, don't bother chalking. I did that last game." That's insane.
Kamuii chalk is more reliable. It's a better product. It greatly reduces a player's amount of miscues. Nobody is going to argue with that. It's also $25-$30 per cube. I understand it if a player wishes to chalk a little less but I think such a strategy will only get you in trouble. A player should always chalk before every shot. They should check their tip before executing any extreme-spin shot no matter what brand they're using.
I HATE the way kamui applys on the tip and leaves marks all over the cueball, like someone said before, if its leaving big blotches of chalk on the cueball, that means its not stayin on your tip.
