Buddy Hall told me that Efren Reyes came to him to play a match, Efren and his backers had won a lot of money when they came to the USA. Buddy said he beat Efren and his backers out of ten thousand dollars, by winning the match. Race to 7 games $10,000, 10 ball, 1 foul ball in hand, push out after the break! Buddy had to drink 3 pots of coffee to get ready to play as he had been drinking all day. This took place at Red's Nine ball open in Houston, TX.

Rags to Rifleman...

... from {BUDDY HALL: Rags to Rifleman, Then What?} A Biography by W.W. Woody (Woody is a long time friend and traveling companion of Buddy's and in fact Buddy called him ".. his best friend in life.." while doing commentary on an Accu-stats match at one of the Roanoke, VA 1pkt tourny's ...

Chapter 42 "Caesar Morales, Billy Johnson, and The WHO" (just incase - Caesar Morales was Efren's traveling name at the time in fact ther is an Accu-stats magazine cover [Jan-Feb 2, 1985 Vol 1. No 1] with a picture of Efren under the head-line " Morales Stuns field at Red's"

short version -- Efren is winning the tournment Buddy is out. Efren is gambling with everyone and winning (the batting order in the book is Keith, Earl and Wade Crane (aka Billy Johnson)).. a fan suggest he try Buddy, Efren's backer asks "Buddy Who.."

Buddy is in the bar and they agree to play after the tourny ... originally 9-ball 10 ahead for $10K but the Efren camp wants 10-ball and Buddy agrees...

Buddy gets sober and they start... Efren wins lag -- runs 2 breaks dry... Buddy gets out and then breaks and runs a 4-back. Efren breaks down a bit and the match lasts less than 2-hours with Buddy winning. This is when the original fan yells "Buddy the Rifleman Hall THATS WHO!"

and that was his last big money match (Buddy) from 1985 to 1996 the time of the printing. (my copy is 2nd addition priniting 1996)

and before any asks neither the book or the accu-stats mag with "Caesar Morales" on the cover are for sale....

Hello nb92,
That is exactly as I stated except for Buddy not playing for much money from then until 1996. It is hard for Buddy to get a game without giving up a lot of weight. I got my points of the game from Buddy Hall it did not come from a book! Thanks for your input.

Actually that is not what you stated. You said a race to 7 "the book" which was written with the help of Buddy by his ".. best friend in life.." who was also there said it was a 10 ahead set. So I was offering what Buddy and his biographer's recollections were in 1996. (only 11 years removed from the event).

I was also mentioning a wonderful biography "Rags to Rifleman" that some may not know is out there. It contains a lot of great stories and anyone who enjoys pool would love it.

And you are welcome for the input,

Regards
Neal

I did and I appreciate you putting it in you post. I had watched the interview before and I enjoy listening to Buddy talk about push out 9-ball and how various rules impact the nature of the game.

best of luck Lock.... Neal

I'm having a hard time believing that they'd gamble that much money in a race to 7.

"Caesar Morales" wanted to play the next day, and they were supposed to play, but Buddy wouldn't put up his end ($5,000) of the $10,000 won the day before. Red Walling ( room owner) wouldn't stake Buddy again.

Please go ask why Buddy turned down playing Cole Dickson. It is said that Buddy had too much good action in the town he was shooting in and that Cole wanted him to take a small drive up to the city he was in. Nothing like straight from the horses mouth.

Thanks!

If Buddy lived here I would do everything I could to get him signed up at the community center for some exercise and weight loss. It has worked miracles for a lot of people here.

There is no doubt in my mind Buddy could be a top level player again if he would improve his health and stamina.

Hello Alstl,

Whitewolf,
Buddy Hall just told me that Cole Dickson was a good player. And that he played Cole a lot of times. And yes Cole beat him some and he beat Cole some! So ask Cole about that!!! That is straight from Buddy Hall's mouth on the phone just now.

There was a discussion going on at a tournament once about who was
the best position player.
'Hippie' Cole said "What's the difference? I never miss a %$^# shot."

..this man believed in himself..:bow-down:

Hey Lock N Load, do you by any chance know Buddy Hall personally and speak to him on the phone? Because that would make you really cool! If I knew Buddy and talked to him I'd mention it all the time to people.

In part two of that video (DCC 2008?) the reporters mention that Gabe Owen scored 60 in five racks vs the one pocket ghost. That is blowing my mind. Can anyone recommend some good videos beyond just one rack of one pocket ghost? How does the difficulty compare to the 15 ball ghost?
