We have a porn convention now.

I have a wood or too I'd rather not share b/c somebody might start looking for it or copy my wood of choice too.

Those are awesome woods !
Looks like Eric will be busy with those burls for a long time.

Some very nice shared pics.
Funny though, how some is considered very nice while other pieces of wood with some small amount of figure/curve/knots/defects/ is considered just junk.

Certainly some treasures have been shown in this thread.
Neil

I have been busy buying up on ebay. Anyone wants to lighten their load on some of those sweet pieces just PM me.

Thanks

That's why you have to have a vast variety & only the best of each species. Easy to buy cocobolo. But not so easy to find pomelle kam-phi rosewood or birdseye kingwood :yeah:

Burls? Dude I got so many burls I don't know what to do with them all. Got two other burl logs scouted but can't cut them yet until I make room.

Good, send some.
I have a ton of water thin epoxy.

If I had the wood Joey and Eric showed I'd be as tickled as they would be with a feather stuck up there A$$'$--LOL--Leonard

It's a decade worth of being an opportunist. Gotta get it when you find it, no matter the cost. Otherwise, you may never get the opportunity again. Who's ever seen fiddleback redheart, pomelle honduran rosewood, beeswing curled cocobolo, east indian rosewood burl, etc.? It's just so odd & different. When I come across weird stuff, I get it. It's my thing. I don't buy normal wood. I only want the weird stuff that i'm pretty sure nobody else has or can get, and it's all I look for. The result is a shop with not a whole lot of wood, but what is in there is the absolute finest examples of a given species.

I agree with a lot of what Eric is saying here. I'm not a cuemaker so I dunno if I should've even posted pics, but I guess I have a burl addiction......:embarrassed2:

Its very part time for me, but I do appreciate ALL the varieties and rareness. There's definately varying degrees of quality, and you should always buy the very best you can. I only have about 5 inches for my wood to make a statement.....:p So it's gotta be outrageously figured. and / or chock full of 'eyes'... So things like quilted sometimes don't look as great as they do in a 3 ft section.

Oh, and sometimes the burl is right in your backyard or neighborhood

Is that sugar maple? Awesome looking stuff & totally different figure & colors than you get in big leaf burls. I understand exactly what you mean about having a small canvas, so the figure has to be outstanding to show up. I have passed on lots of awesome slabs & boards because even though the figure is intense, it's too broad for cues.

I see moss growing on both sides of that tree/trunk - so which way IS north????

Likely the face showing. That moss to the north thing is only vaguely accurate. In a dense canopy forest, moss can grow all over. The same moss grows dead trees lying on the ground & that faces straight up toward the sun.
