The Nine Ball Break

Players have their own personal break. Most try to increase their velocity. The ideal break is a quality hit on the cue ball with a specific stroke and a quality hit on the one ball. Witout the specific stroke you will never know where the cue ball is going. It is also important to know where the one ball goes. YOU DO NOT WANT TO MAKE THE ONE BALL. You want to play position for that ball. Place your cue tip 1/8 above center and use a slightly powerful draw stroke. I wrote more about this on my site www.monkbilliardacademy.net

Did I read this wrong? "an 1/8th above center then draw????
randyg

Randy,

That shot is only possible with a world class stroke. It requires you to hold your breath and execute a double wrist turn during your stroke.

It's not possible for most players, but a few can do it.

A few are chosen.....

With due respect to all instructors, I do know that Joe Tucker has provided a very comprehensive solution to the 9-ball break in his two DVD's.

I also know Danny Basavich has a breaking DVD, but I have not seen it.

And I imagine Corey Deuel and Donnie Mills would be two people worth spending an hour with on the break.

If you took the knowledge of those four people, I don't think you could do much better.

must be tough to do that
on command
under pressure
on the first try
just sayin

I think I've achieved this before... I aim for 1/8" above center, and after breaking the cue ball rockets back away from the rack like a power draw. I've also aimed below center and had the "hunter / seeker" cue ball dive back into the rack area trying to find something to carom off of and scratch.

I'm an expert with toppy bottom. If I could separate the two, I'd beat at least 2-3 more people.
