Shane Van Boening ~ 115 Ball Run ~ 2012 Fury 14.1 Challenge @ SBE

Good run by him. Now a question for the straight pool experts ... is it a foul to place the rack on the table in determining your break shot ? if you lay it on the table and sight the break ball ?

Nice little run from Shane. I think we have all seen in the last few years top pros that either never play 14.1 or don’t play it very often get up and run 100 out of he box. What they lack in seeing the patterns in the beginning they make up for in pure firepower and the knowledge of staying out of trouble. 14.1,s a pure and beautiful game IMO but is not very hard to learn for a good pro. I think everyone should start out playing 14.1, then Billiards, and then the other games including Snooker and 15-ball rotation. Johnnyt

I don`t know if it a foul or not but growing up we used to do it all the time to see if a ball was going to be in the rack.

As far as I know as long as you don't touch or move a ball while seeing if the rack fits is OK. One of the pure 14.1 guys will be waking up soon and can set us straight on this. Johnnyt

Good Morning...lol

It is not a foul, but in regulation play it is not allowed.

But in the event we had to allow it, we had a rack outline drawn on the table. But when it was drawn it was layed out wrong by the table mechanic and it was done with a different rack then what we were using for the event.

good question

Thanks for posting this!!

I always enjoy watching him shoot, there's something about his stroke that's so positive and fluid at the same time. He can and does change it a bit from time to time depending on the shot but overall i feel he's got one of the best out there.

Now if only i could.........

Brian :)

Chalk in bridge hand while shooting???

???? I just noticed on a bunch of shots he chalks with his bridge hand and proceeds to hold onto the chalk whilst stroking and pocketing the ball. Is this on purpose or a dead stroke kind a thing ya think? Also is it legal?

Ok, thanks for the vid too!
:p

A gentleman i shoot with on Tuesday evenings holds the chalk in his bridge hand on 90% of his shots. He says it keeps him settled. Not something i can do. He did it all the time in APA, no foul called.

Brian, i was lucky to see Cisero Murphy play in 1966, and as i said in the parallel thread on this in the 14.1 forum, Shane's stroke reminds me so much of Cisero's it's uncanny. something about the smooth acceleration. really beautiful.

as others have mentioned, it would be great to see what he could do if he spent some time on the game. or Alex Pagulayan, for that matter. both of them have something to their games -- Efren had it as well -- that really works for straight pool.
