Looking for a set of Aramith Tournament Balls

Nielson's Billiards on eBay has the best price I've seen on new sets of those - $198.93 plus 9.95 for shipping.

i want to thank Steve first off, for posting this. i'm kinda a n00b here, with only 2 trades, and Steve posting the question will likely get a better response, since he's widely known as a good guy. thanks, Steve!

and i want to thank Lou, who i know only via postings here, but i understand from those that he's as trustworthy as the day is long in midsummer, for what sounds like a good offer.

what i had been looking at is this set on Seybert's:

i don't care about the Rempe ball, but how does the rest of it compare with the ones from Lou? i have to admit some confusion with all the different versions of Aramith balls. one of the things i like about that set is that it comes with a measle ball, which my girlfriend really, Really covets. and there's no shipping cost.

my overall goal is this: i'm strictly a 14.1 player, and the rooms i get to most often have balls ranging from lousy to hideous, making breaking the rack open almost impossible. most of them have also been used for 9-ball for decades, so even the sets that Aren't totally mismatched (or crummy balls to start with) won't rack really tight as a result. so i want to end up with the best set i can find for straight pool, and one of those soft cases to carry it around.

i guess i hear y'all saying (and Steve in a pm) that Lou's offer is a good one. i'd just like to understand a little more before deciding what to do.

Bob -- the set that Steve wrote about in post #1 is the Aramith Tournament set. This is the top-of-the-line set from Saluc. They have been available for maybe three years, and are made from a new "Duramith technology" resin, that supposedly lasts longer and reduces wear on the cloth.

The set you posted is the Super Aramith Pro set. These balls, along with the Brunswick Centennial set, were the top of the line from Saluc for many years before the Tournaments were introduced.

The cue ball with the Tournament set is not a measles ball, it is one with a black Aramith logo surrounded by a split circle, and it matches the rest of the set.

At least some of the Super Aramith Pro sets come with the measles cue ball; others may come with a red-Aramith-logo cue ball.

The Brunswick Centennials come with a blue-circle cue ball.

The measles cue ball is also available separately.

All three of the sets I have mentioned above are excellent and would serve you well in 14.1 or any other game.
 
Either the Super Pros or the Tournaments are premium sets. Just that the Tournaments are now the top of the line since they were introduced wiith the latest resin formula. But the Super Pros didn't all of a sudden go down in quality and in fact are still used at many professional tournaments unless Aramith is supplying the balls and want to provide the more expensive T's.

If you were buying new and money was an issue I'd say buy the Super Pros only because the premium you are paying for the Tournaments is largely related to being easier on the cloth and you are not using them on a home table but taking them to the pool hall. Maybe they do last longer but even the Super Pros will be good for years.

That said, the used set Lou's offered is an excellent price and I'd be confident I could trust his description of the condition.

As for the set that you are considering, I wouldn't pay extra. Like you said, you don't care about the Rempe ball so all you are getting extra is a microfiber towel and a bottle of polish.

The polish you can buy separately whenever you feel like it and you probably won't use it that often unless you have a machine. I have the Aramith polish and it's very good but using it by hand is much slower than spritzing the balls with "Brillianize", Nexus, or some other plastic cleaner and wiping them down with a micro towel. I use Brillianize to clean my set after every session and it takes a couple of minutes. The Aramith polish I use once in a while while watching TV because it takes 20 minutes or so to do by hand. The problem is it doesn't just spray on. You kind of have to spread it on the balls with your finger.

i realize that i can get these from you, and get a measle ball to keep the gf happy, and still come out in the same price range. that gives me an extra cueball instead of the rempe ball, which is great. and as Dogs pointed out, i can get the polish i want separately, plus i have a microfiber towel. so all is good.

this set might work

Super Aramith Pro (TV Pro-Cup)

This would be the way to go if you want brand new.

It comes with the measle ball as the included cue ball.

You just have to like the pink 4/12 and brown 7/15.

Or

You could buy the Super Aramith pro balls (blue box set) and buy aramith pro cup cue ball separately.

With new carry case.

Either option might be able to do for less than 200.
depends on your shipping costs.
 
I have nice balls, so I am not a shopper...but

I'd pay a little extra to buy from a trusted seller, as opposed to an unknown.

Lots of fakes out there, I do believe.
 
I would stay away from unknowns also.

If Lou's selling Duramiths get em. Great price for 150.
if they are Super Aramiths not you can do better.
