What is the best story you have about playing a champiom, pro or monster player?

For a guy who has played very little tournament pool, I have played a lot of studs. First match ever at the Reno Open in 1998 I drew Kim Davenport. In the next Reno Open I drew Ralph Souquet in the first round of the losers bracket. The list also includes Corey Duel, Jeremy Jones, Tommy Kennedy, Ernesto Dominguez, Ron Wiseman. You get the picture.

Great stories, keep em coming.
Being from where I am in Canada, there is not much chance of having a legend walk into our hall let alone a well seasoned road man.

Lots of good players here but I know all of them. Wish I had a good one to tell but I am satisfied just reading.

My most exciting win was against Rodney Morris in the 2010 Derby City Classic.. It was banks so not his best game. Nonetheless, it felt great.

Only to be throttled by Efren Reyes one hour later.. I actually enjoyed the beating from Efren more than I did beating the Rocket.

Both are fond memories!

Played Karen Corr a couple of years ago in the first round of a 9 ball tourney in Clarksville, Tn. Won the flip broke made 3 balls on the break, missed the 1 and didnt shoot again for 4 games. She broke the 5th came up dry I run down to the 8 miss it damn near straight in the side. Got beat 5-0.

Many years ago I was playing Neptune Joe Frady in NJ. We were playing straight pool. Joe was at that time a world class player. He was playing me 100 to 70. I run 53 from the break and says to him "Take that Joe!"
He runs a 100 and out and true to his nature when he finished the run he just gave me a big grin.
Also just to mention Joe and I were old friends. I knew him since he was 12 years old.

Back inthe 70's at Gips Cue in Scranton, Jimmy Rempe was playing some guy straight pool. 500.00 /50 balls. First game Rempe breaks safe, the guy returns it, Rempe runs out.
2nd game ,other guy breaks, Rempe runs out.
Third game Rempe breaks, leaves a table lenght combo, the other guy complains about the leave. Rempe says,"I'll shoot it"?
The guy says, "go ahead".
Rempe goes 50 and out!
Guy lost 150-0. and 1500.00 in about 15 minutes.

I like this story. Never let a player shoot a shot he asks to shoot.

I went do to Fla with Jhon Barton when he work with fury . He had a break contest in his booth i jump in and broke made 5 balls on the snap. 5 min's last this skin kid comes up breaks makes 6 on the snap won the cue . i told him "DAM YOUR LUCKY" Bet you can't do that agian . $20 down this time he makes 6 on the break . Stop the rock in the middle of the table. takes the 20 and walks off. A friend comes over and Said i heard you lost $20 to SVB in a game of breaks this was before he went pro...

Mike Hellmer

McDermott tour event, McChesney is there at the old rebuilt original Colfax Billiards, but now was remodeled and expanded with its new ownerLeaf Jensen. Can't remember the score, probably 3 -1 or 4-2 me, got a lucky roll after going up a few games and hooked Mike, he started complaining but not too much, I said I'll take the shot, he said ''go ahead'', I jumped, made the ball and run 3 or four racks behind it, he was sick, winner breaks at that time.

Jimmy Reid

Drove all the way to JOBs' in TN for their annual event and getting somewhat near the end. Score 5-1 me, and Jimmy Sharks me..........Big surprise, he got me again at the US Open, but thats another story. After the shark, he runs 9 in a row, now its 10-5 and he hooks me good, you know the rest of the story. Was a looooooooooooooooong drive to get a 9 package.

Dave you had Efren beat

12Squared if you hadn't started to play safe against Efren you would have beatin him, Barney

Barney was joking, I had no chance. But I did have the opportunity to play a few defensive shots which I didn't execute well.

So many good stories coming into my thread. It is nice to hear about, and from all of the AZB members who posted in this thread. Thanks a lot!

I was in a splashboard singles qualifier a several years back, at breaks billiards in astoria playing as a 6. lost my first match to a 6, then beat a pretty solid 7. next match was this older man in his 60's put out his hand and says hi, im only a 2 i've only been playing for a year, i said maybe in the apa, but how long have you really been playing. i guess his hearing was going because he didnt answer. 24 innings later he beats me 2 and out.

See the same guy a few years later playing my friends team in 9-ball in first round of the cities. He's a 2, they put him up against a 7. Not sure how many innings he played but it was enough as he kept burrying the c.b., and he got to his needed 19 points before the 7 even reached 19 himself.

this old man is a monster in my eyes.

Tip - Janette Lee LOVES Almond Roca, if you play her yell out do you want an Almond Roca before her shot, she'll laugh, scratch & then you can run out :)
