1. Baltimore Bullet

2. The Hustler

3. Pool Hall Junkies

4. The episode of married with children where joey from friends hustles with Al, his uncle

5. Any accu-stats or old espn rerun featuring Efren

6. The movie with tom cruise I forget the name. It wasn't for pool players, rather for people who don't know about pool.

I think it is obvious that what is needed is a documentary style independent film chronicles some major tournaments and players, interviews, etc. There are many documentaries of this type these days. For instance recently hbo is showing episodes chronicling the 2008 olympics, with certain events and athletes featured each episode. Anything like this would be great since pool doesn't translate to film very well. Any thoughts on this?
 
I sure would like to see "The Baltimore Bullet" again.
James Coburn was one cool character.

I don't know why that movie is so hard to get in the U.S....?

The Color Of Money should be on the top of your list. There were lots of real pool players and wives of the pool players in the movie. Well...at least one wife.
 
The DVD rights for the US hasn't been settled. Its basically pool's version of Heavy Metal, a movie that took nearly 20 years to release because of the song rights. I ended up buying a region 2 version of The Baltimore Bullet DVD from Amazon and watch it from my all region DVD player.

Sorry, nothing comes close to The Hustler. The Color of Money is a distant second. Other movies are hardly worth mentioning.

Agree, The Hustler had several Academy Award nominations I believe. The Baltimore Bullet didn't even come close and neither did The Color of Money.

The best Pool Movie of all time is the The Player Staring Minnesota Fat from 1971!!!!!!!:yeah::yeah::yes:

Oh and by the way, another famous player who stared in the Movie was Jack Colavita

Where to get the Movie

Does anyone know where to get a copy of The Player Staring Minnesota Fat from 1971!?

I got the Baltimore Bullet on VHS and converted it to DVD.

Would also love to get a copy of the movie that Efren did with English sub titles.
 
This thread caused me to sing up for net flix last night and I watched The Hustler again.

Great movie.

Even then, the "romantic side story" of the Hustler was depressing.

I just made myself watch it from your link. I remember when it first came out we all went to see it and left the theater almost nauseous. After watching it for only maybe the second time since it came out nothing is better. My skin crawled listening to the ridiculous lines being delivered. The movie is a painful embarrassment.

Not as bad as Poolhall Junkies, but close.

The problem with BB is, not withstanding how technically poor it was, it is a bad movie on any level. What I can't understand is, it is just as easy to make a movie correctly as total BS. You would think with all those pool players on the set they would have gotten things a little more realistic. I was in the movie Love Child with Beau Bridges. I staged a nice pool scene that came off totally real just the way it would be. Unfortunately at the end of the scene the table gets flipped over and a big fight takes place.

In fact that is how I got involved, the prop guy wanted a junk table they could wreck. I had a bar table with no slate. I fixed it up with a plywood top and covered it. You could actually play on it as well as the actor would be able to lift it. He could have never have lifted and flipped a slate table. The little pool game I staged is exactly the way the game would go so as to have an out come that would start a fight due to a bad hit.

Absolutely agree. But I admit that I like Color Of Money a little more each time I watch it. But the ending sucked. :cool:
