I was watching Alex play Mika tonight in the US One Pocket. Alex is on the hill. He plays a positional safety, putting a ball by his hole and the cue ball up table blocking the view of his pocket by a couple of balls that were tied up.
Mika takes an intentional foul. Mika spots a ball.
Alex takes an intentional foul. Alex spots a ball.
Mika takes an intentional foul. Mika spots a ball.
Alex takes an intentional foul. Alex forgets to spot a ball and Mika doesn't realize it.
Mika - now on two fouls - attempts to play safe but leaves Alex a long shot. Alex of course makes it and pockets a second ball after this.
At this time, Mika stops him and says you forgot to spot your ball. Alex calls the ref over. I cannot hear what the ref is saying and can only make a guess from everyone's body language and motions. He let's the players decide what they want to do and they agree to spot the ball.
Now this is the fourth ball spotted down from the spot. It is obviously a lot easier to pocket with a shot. Of course, Alex plays shape to pocket this ball next. Alex gets to a ball count of 7 and misses a bank. Two or three shots later Alex eventually wins the game and the set.
My question is - what is the official rule? I was under the impression that it would now have to spot after Mika got back to the table and his inning was over.
Again, I couldn't hear so did the ref abide by the actual rule by telling them to spot the 4th ball mid inning?
If the ref let the players decide as it appeared - and again I could be wrong about this - why on Earth would Mika want the ball spotted then?
